Not talking about a sticker either :D

While waiting for friday to drop off my motherboard for its cpu transplant I ordered a mold making kit and some carbon fiber cloth.

With this I can use some of my spare chassis parts to make some carbon fiber replacements.

Thinking of making the bottom half, and the screen backing.

While they wont really make it that much lighter, it will help a bit. I can customize the cooling a little bit, and it will make the computer even stronger.
I can remove some of the metal thats inside of the computer to lighten it up some more. Going to reinsforce the hinge areas, and set up some cooling intake vents under the hdd and ram slots.

Kit should be here sometime next week.

Since I am trained as a autobody tech, this should be really easy to do.

My wife is having our baby in 3 months, so I gotta get all my design done now while I still have time for it.

Once the baby is here I will not have as much R&D time so I need to have prototypes, and tooling all set and built now.

Good luck ejohnson mate, now remember you can't modify the baby, it starts as an M11x r1 and works it's way up-to m18 r(what ever it will be).

Good luck on all your endeavours.

My 18 mths old daughter keeps me on my toes, M11x r3, N55SF and desktop attracts due her to the pretty lights lol.

You get the carbon fiber thing working and I'll gladly buy your molds from you when you're done! I would love a carbon fiber case on my m11x with an orange candy or tinted clear topcoat. I was also trained in auto body tech and worked as a painter for ~4 years.

Once I get the rest of the parts I will let you know how the R1 fits inside of a CF-29.

Just looking at my Alien with the back off it before and it looks like it will all fit in the CF-29 chassis. The 29 chassis has the back plate where it goes off the back may even have enough room for dvd drive. The 28 case is more of a split case and everything doesn't want to stay put sometimes and has those dividers in it. If you wanted a smaller chassis I think a CF-18 may work also giving you a true tablet. I think the biggest two challenges would be the screen and keyboard. To fit properly I would go with the 29 emissive backlit keyboard but I haven't compared the pin outs to even see if it would work. Either the 29 or 18 case would have to me modified for a fan also.

Ok, I forgot about dividers in the 28's. I think there is a 29 kicking around, and I know we have a couple of 18's.

the LVDS pinouts and mapping key matrixes shouldnt be too bad ( unless we need to make an arduno translator board.

fan mod would be the easiest change

I think your mod is really interesting. Do you plan to keep the CF-29/Alien-29 waterproof or water resistant and shockproof? If so I would love a how to once you got it working :)

Also, maybe this should be a new thread as we have sort of invaded ejohnson's

We have invaded just a tad. I hope it's at least something he would find interesting though. I was planning on keeping most if not all of the shock proof but would have to work on keeping the waterproof. The new CF-31 and several itronix fully rugged notebooks have a fan mounted to the backside of a heat sink. That way the insides can still be protected and keep moisture out. I wasn't really looking for fully water resistant just a tougher shell for everyday use. That will be it for now on this subject, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

This is going to be one monster of a machine when you are done ejohnson. Waterproofing would be a feat. :)
