I have an R1, and recently did a fresh install. What exactly does the Canitga GS45 driver do? It is found under the "Chipset" category.

It is used to control your chipset, Chipset - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yes but why is it only "optional" according to the dell website. I haven't installed it yet and my laptop seems to be running fine. I was just wondering if I would get a performance increase by installing it.
-
It may increase battery life.
It's basically to optimize things better.
It's not imperative to the performance but it does some minor things that may improve your experience in the long run. -
Can anyone verify this driver is installed in the M11x out of the box?
-
It is. I have had all three and each one comes with every driver on the site and some extra bloatware. So yes it does.
