This week i have been taking the time that my computer takes in the "startup"/"boot", and guess what ? It takes A LOT of time on mine! 2:30 min-3:00min !
Of course I know this is not a normal time on the Startup, and that's why I want to ask you guys if you can recommend me to do something to improve the boot time of my computer. I really miss when my computer boot time was around 40 sec-1 min.
Also, It would be great if you post the time that it takes to your computer(m11x) to Startup/Boot and what kind of things you do to keep your computer "clean"and running smoothly.

Why don't you try Soluto? A very handy piece of software, helps to remove a ton of unneeded stuff from your boot sequence (or delay it until later). It would require a bit of attention and consideration though.

I won't bet on it - yet I don't think you will be able to break 40 seconds on the m11x without an ssd.

Around 1 minute 10 secs or so, using Soluto.

Restarting the computer for me take about 3 minutes 15 seconds, while cold boot is 2 minutes 50 sekunds. An SSD would help A LOT from the 7200 rpm drive.

Yes, it will help tremendously... yet 2 min 50 sec seems a bit too much for a regular hdd as well, doesn't it?

    shudder*

cold boot for me is under 20sec, restart is a 25ish with an SSD, with a 320gb 5400RPM I had it under 1min for a restart, and 40ish for a cold boot.

then again, I only have 37ish process to start...

    Defrag your HDD
disable most startup items(leave audio, batt meter, AV software, and toucpad)
    Disable GUI boot(msconfig)
there is a list of services that are safe to set to manual(google pls)
under MSconfig I have all non microsoft services disabled, YMMV
disable start-up tone under sound properties

I would definitely recommend soluto. Dropped me from 53 to 35seconds. SSHD helped my boot time drop from 1min 30seconds to 50-55seconds. So if an SSD is too expensive for you and doesnt have enough space then I would definitely recommend an SSHD.

haha. I do it at least 10 times. Between classes and such. I do not know about his situation but it would be 30min (if I was him) of a day lost which is almost 5% of the time Im awake daily.

Wow, I already try it , and it is working smoothly :D. It took me around 20-30 min to know exactly what programs should I "pause" or "delay", but overall is working great and is making a big improvement on my Boot.

Same, almost every day I have to take my computer to the school and If I want the battery to last 8 hours running AAE (Adobe after effects), some strange programs for algebra , biology and ethics, i have to shut down the computer/ turn it on between each class :3

Hibernate takes the exact same amount of time to turn off the computer as shutdown does. To resume it takes about 15-20seconds. Which is rougly comparable to the 35seconds it normally takes to boot up. Why both using 2-4GBs for hibernate? For 10-15seconds at most. Anyway lets get back on topic.

I'm glad Soluto helped you out a bit
