Hey guys, i got the m11xr2 i7 8gbRAM with 500gb of space. Is the asus SBW-06C1S-U a good burner that will work with the m11x? I was hoping to rip and burn some stuff onto blu rays. I dont really understand what HDCP is, the driver requires it and i want to know will i be able to do what i desire on it? Thanks in advance, here is the link to the driver Amazon.com: Asus USB 2.0 Slim External 6x Blu-Ray Writer SBW-06C1S-U: Electronics

The LG Blu-ray™ Disc Rewriter could be an interesting device. I have not tested it.
Great that it's USB 2.0 as it's only been released a few months now.
Which means a USB 3.0 version won't be long in coming and thus reduce the price of the USB 2.0 version. Given that the M11x only supports USB 2.0

And the LG Blu-ray™ Disc Rewriter has a lovely blue cover with white piping.
This would offset the blue keyboard back-light theme I have going on my M11xR1.
Currently have the LG Slim External Super-Multi DVD Drive which comes in black with white piping. Does a pretty good job of all my DVD/CD needs.
Haven't had the chance to use the LightScribe™ Disc Labeling yet.

It is against the law in the United States to rip and copy a DVD or Blu-Ray for any reason, even if you are making a legitimate backup for a DVD / Blu-Ray that you legitimately own for backup purposes. This is because doing so requires you to illegally break the DVD / Blu-Ray encryption, and violates a law called the Digital Millenium Copyright Act (DMCA). HDCP is another layer of anti-copy-protection technology intended to discourage piracy.
I don't think that you'd get many useful answers from this forum on the questions that you asked, beyond saying that we can't talk about it. -
However, if you're writing your own holiday or wedding Full-HD video or some such media to BD, then you don't have to worry about HDCP.
i.e. 1080p video using a mobile phone from Korea (Not North Korea.... just in case you're wondering)
Unless it was a VERY good holiday/party and you want to copy protect it yourself.
AKA Hollywood starlet etc etc... -
@DrGoodVibes-
As usual, you are correct, and make very valid points.
But something tells me that the OP wasn't looking to make legitimate copies of wedding Blu-Rays.
