So I have the M11xR2 on order, and I ordered the standard 160gb drive for price reasons. I don't care to shell out a lot of $ on a SSD, but I want to get more storage and speed. I have seen a handful of 320gb and 500gb HDD's on Newegg for $60-80, but I notice that some of the reviews aren't so hot. Does anyone have any input for a great notebook HDD that is stable, quiet, and fast(er)? Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Isn't Seagate have some build quality recently? At least as far as desktop drive goes.

Why not a Seagate Hybrid drive?
    4GB NAND Flash and 500GB 7200RPM .
Reviews put it at almost 80-100% improvements over traditional regular HDD's

    and it's only $130ish
Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus XT ST95005620AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s with NCQ Solid State Hybrid Drive -Bare Drive

only problem is grabbing it when it's in stock.

My experiences with them have been satisfactory, If there has been a QC problem that's been publicized I'm not aware of it.

I'm going to get this one too I think. Still wondering about that battery life thou.

I have a 500GB 7200 rpm Seagate in my current laptop and it has been working fine. I got it by a mistake. I started buying Western Digital after their awesome looking external drives... I got a Mybook and was happy with it. But six months ago I got a Mypass port 500 GB, with a crappy micro-USB, and the stupid build-in firmware crap, and it died fast.

    WD... you s.

NewEgg doesn't have it either, but the ETA said 6/16/2010 just in time for M11xR2 to arrive. Price at $129.99+SH+tax(at least for me).
So, i need to know if Seagate get a better QA?

picked one up from tiger direct using bing got $15.60 coming back shipping was $4.8 but no tax and i should have it in time for me to swap into the m11x r2. This is a pretty good deal since it is in stock and bing is ending soon so jump on it while you can. Also tiger direct, and comp usa and circuit city is all the same and all have 12% cash back and all have them in stock. Jump in guys what is a mere $115 bucks for a 500gb HD that should help reduce the bottle neck in your currrent 5400rpm or 7200rpm and a nice bump. i skipped the HD upgrade when ordering the m11x and glad i did this was perfect.

    thanks

I personally, am never going to buy Seagate again. Not after I had a TB drive fail on me after 3 months of light usage.
