    Hi all,

As I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my M11xR2, I need some advice of what monitor I should be looking at. I really don't want to spend more than $400 AUS (I think that's about $350 US) but want to get the best one for around that price or a little bit more if need be.

At the moment, the LG Flatron W2442PA-BF seems to be a goer, it has all the things I am looking for: HD 1080p, HDMI input, relatively big and a fairly reasonable price.
LG Flatron W2442PA: why it's a perfect second monitor for your PC - 23+ Inch LCD - LCD - Peripherals - Reviews - PC Authority

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated (so I would have something to keep me preoccupied while I wait for the delivery of my little beast :) ), Thanks.

Yeah that Samsung looks quite good.

Has anyone had any experience with the Alienware AW2310? I'm not into it just because of the 3D but that 120Hz refresh rate looks very enticing.

    Is it worth it?

    Good question.

Laptops usually have 60 Hz refresh rate right? Does that scale when you hook it up to a monitor? Can the GPU understand that the other monitor can run at a differen refresh rate?

I think 27'' is the new thing for gamers. I've had a 24'' for years now, and it's been great, but times are moving up. I think 27'' is the next logical step. All the 30'' I have seen are extremely expenssive. I would be able to get a 60'' Plasma TV with 1920x1080 resolution cheaper than a Dell 30'' even though it looks amazing.

Someone told me, to look for monitors with TN panels. Apparently it's the industry standard for graphics professionals?

I find it annoying that the internet is lacking in good monitor and TV and audio system reviews. We have lots of Laptop reviews, but when it comes to screens its much more difficult to get good feedback.

Samsung is interesting to me. They are a Korean company, but seems to have taken a chokehold on the industry everywhere. As Korea is booming, Japan might be heading for a economical collapse I've heard.
In fact, one out of three TVs/Monitors in Scandinavia(where I live) are Samsung. It's an incredible change from them... I recall that in the 90s they where a cheap sort-of company that had mediocre cheap products.

Sony has defintely been able to keep their premium and quality, but I don't think they make Monitors, and if they did - I would think they would be expenssive.

Thanks heaps for your reply luffytubby, the Samsung monitors I have looked at all seem really good.

One more question about the Alienware monitor; Is it possible to run a PS3 through the monitor and display it in 3D or is it something that is restricted to the Nvidia technology?

That's a very good question. I guess we will know more when the 3D Update gets released for PS3, soon.

I bet the PS3 will support the 3D Technology that is in all the HDTV's with 3D Support that is supposed to get released. Maybe you could mail Nvidia and ask if it will work - And if the glasses will work too!
