Hey guys. Just got my m11x so i cant accurately speak as to the battery life arguably, but i am getting closer to 6., not the 8 advertised hours of battery life....
i am of course using the battery saving hybrid mode and the windows 7 power saving mode.
    should i even expect 8?
    Thanks,
    Art

    Which revision?

I can approach 3 hours on half a battery with light use.

EDIT: as I understand it the R1's are good for 7.

I don't think even the R1 can pull of 8 hours with practical use (more like 6)...with the R2, I get about 4 hours with general use (medium brightness "balanced").

With a my M11x with SU7300 stock, Intel intergrated gpu, power plan on power saver, 3 bars of brightness, WiFi and Bluetooth on while using a Bluetooth mouse, I get slightly over 6 hours. I think with balanced power plan I still get roughly 6 hours just haven't tried that in awhile.

Does anyone know whether the M11x could be installed with a better battery. Something more than the 8 cell it comes with. Sorry since this is probably a stupid question and would not work, but I think it would be interesting to know...

I got 8 hours once, however it involved turning off all accessories, fiddling with what programs came on during startup, no WiFi, no Bluetooth, and screen brightness on 1.

It's doable, but you do take quite a bit of compromise to do so.

If I could, I would buy an extra battery, and go through the trouble to install it.

On topic, I get around 4-4 1/2 hrs. of battery life with my r2

You could probably pull of 8 hrs. Just boot into dos. :p As was mentioned above, you could do it but then everything must be off and your basically left with dos functionality. With all my settings turned down I get about 6 hrs worth of dvd quality movies. Mind though no wifi, alienfx off, cpu at stock, brightness at 1 and power save mode. And of course intel gfx. And yes I have a R1. :)

    I get 4-4.5 hours just browsing on a R2

There's no way this machine can get 8 hours, that's outright false advertising.

I have never seen an R2 advertised at 8 hours and the R1 was advertised at "over 7 hours" which might be doable. I can take my R2 to about 5 hours with power saver mode, FX lighting turned off, wifi off etc.

I get 6.5-7 hours fairly reliably assuming all i am doing is just tooling around on the internet. This is with my power plan customized a bit, but still with wifi/bt on using a razor orochi.

I got close to 8 hours once, and as everyone else mentioned above it was with wifi off, bluetooth off, alienfx off, no wireless mouse, brightness at 1, su7300 on 1.3ghz, intel graphics and only program open was word. It was on a trip to Las Vegas and I was writing an essay on the plane. Plane got delayed 2 hours, so I was sitting on the plane for that amount of time. And the flight time was 6hours. My laptop died a little before we landed. So it is possible well... close to possible :-D

I had 8:40 once on my R2 but that was on idle. I'm still trying to find ways to optimize battery life =[

No, it's not possible. The way that other laptops can get away with extended batteries is because they use batteries that are physically larger that stick out from the back of the laptop. Since the M11x uses an internal battery, there isn't any room for larger batteries.

I get about 5 hours with High performance on, 2nd brightness, Intel GPU on, Wireless 5 GHZ N. I turned off some ports I dont use, and am using USB connected mouse Razor Orochi. Lights on :)

I never tried power saver or balanced yet...oh and my MY is overclocked :) w/4 gigs ram and 1 Momentus XT 500 GIG. The Laptop is about 2 months old now. I keep the Battery off when plugged in, and has been charged like 5-10 times so far for the past 2 months.

Being over clocked has zero effect on battery life. The voltage is down-stepped slightly when the CPU is overclocked...

You might be able to get 8 hours if you have everything turned off and the lid closed. :|

I tried this (turned it off) and it lasted overnight (>8rs) and still loads of battery left. :)
