turn off backlights, lower your screen brightness, surfing web kills battery, word processing and things like that will be easier on the battery. batteries do degrade over time even if they are Lithium Ion batteries. I'll give you an estimate of my battery life as I've had mine for a year now. In the beginning i could squeeze 7 hours on battery just word processing, but on the internet 6

EDIT: I just checked how long mine would last now since it's been a year. On power saver, lowest screen brightness, AlienFX disabled = 4 hours and 27 minutes. Btw leaving your charger in doesn't make a big difference in battery degradation, the computer or battery idk which, stops charging at 100% and from then on just uses the power from the outlet instead of your battery to power the computer while it's plugged in

if thats what windows says, it is rubbish, mine says 4hours all the time until it actually has 4 hours left... then it starts dropping... my AIDA64 does show it properly, with power consumption also... well roughly.
