I do not have extended warranty; manufacturing warranty ends in July 2011. Should I be concerned now? How would I make my plea to Dell to send me a replacement battery? Normal usage, fully charged, nets me under 3 hours.

    Would appreciate any advice, thanks!

How long have you had the device?

In any case, I would call and ask. The worst they can do is tell you no, and you'll still have that call as evidence that you had an issue in case it worsens considerably.

The battery wear is greater than 3% i dont get it? 3% battery wear out of the box would be normal for something that was say 6 months old on a shelf, and also normal for something that's been used for 6 months. Its actually great.

So am i missing something other than 3 hours of battery life? Wear percentage of 3%, 4% nothing to be bothered about. 3 hours depending on the configuration of your M11x probably. I am guessing the shocker is the wear percentage is low but the actual usable life is alot worse?

Just call and make up some BS about how the battery is going down hill? Say it only lasts like half and hour.

Battery life is contingent on a great many things. I purchased my R2 in July-August of 2010 and I still don't have any battery wear according to battery bar.

As far as I'm concerned, getting a new computer with wear is unacceptable.

Understandable but wear is also contingent on many things.

The wear is calculated from the design capacity and the current capacity. The cells will not always have the same capacity due to minor imperfections in the materials use. Some will have more most will have a little less.

The time it takes to manufacture the cell to the time it actually meets up to its device for shipping can be a little bit, but usually isn't for laptops. Most are probably sold directly from Dell's stocks so that also helps to cut down on time sitting. Eitherway after about 6 months the cell will have been discharged enough to have a negative impact, if it ends up being that long there is nothing anyone could do about it but wait for you to purchase it.

Just saying 1% could have been the reading before it was even slapped in the box. My last laptop was being discontinued when i bought it and am pretty sure it sat for a long time lol, no worries for most of you as with a little money in hand your after the next big thing.

I am likewise confused by your description. Depending on how long you've had it, 3% doesn't seem like much. Did you experience a sudden change in performance? 3% wear by itself should not bring you down to 3 hours and I suspect that something else may be a culprit. What is your idle discharge rate on battery?
