ok so this is the 2nd game i've tried (after the not so good results with WoW)

what level of settings do you run in BC2 and how does it play?

i overclocked to 162 and it crashed a few times trying to play it, so i downed it to 160 and it played. but @ high settings it still seems pretty laggy. is this another optimus issue? or is this game just too intense to be running on high settings?

I'd stop overclocking so much. As far as the i7 goes, it is in people's heads that overclocking is faster for gaming. i7 adjusts on its own.

Yeah, I agree with Tweak155 - use it default for a while before you OC. These are both games that your M11x should run no prob (BC2 might not run on highest though)

I think overclocking + disable Turbo Boost, should give a more stable gaming experience with a higher minimum FPS. Unless the CPU throttles somehow.

If you say so I guess the Core [email protected] would save people $$ and get a SSD or Seagate Momentus XT instead :D

Well the Core i3-330UM is available in Malaysia :D I still wonder how would it compare to Core [email protected] OCed??

From the benchmarks I have seen, Turbo Boost is only causing confusion and doesn't seem stable. I rather prefer to have a stable 1.44 GHz (OC 160 BCLK) with the i7 on both cores, than some Turbo Boost living its own life.

I am waiting for the review NBR promised to do on the R2 last week, but no words.

Hopefully a patch for the cpu will fix it and it will work like a charm~

    @mackman

Do you have any tests or data to confirm your theory? Because on every other normal system, desktops especially it seems like noone has ever thought of disabling turbo boost ?

interesting thought, so id love to see some real world tests. thanks

The thing here is.. How much clocks turbo boost give to the i7-640um on both cores? I think its only 2.26GHz stock for single core right?

So that means the clocks of i3-330um OCed would be = i7-640um OCed

Wouldn't that have the same performance not to mention the i7-640um's extra 1MB cache..? So the i5-520um would be weaker on 2 cores here..

If you check my R2 vs R1 thread, I have a lot of data on turbo boost.

Is it better to leave the R2 on stock clocks, the turbo will kick upto between 1.7 & 1.8 on full load. That is faster than no turbo + full overclock.

I play BFBC2 with medium details & effects, low shadows and high textures 2xAA 4xAF and get approx 30fps on 32man maps

That could be because those are Quaddie's... unlike the ULV i3/i5/i7 which are dual-cores.....

That is true.. it is interesting to think that most games today favor duo cores. now what then happens once turbo boost kicks in and takes away 1 core? or does it actually disable it? isn't it just partially OC'ing the cores separately but the reason why it can only do one core to a max of 2.4 (or what ever it is) is because it has a max volt use as well?

I might be totally off here but i just dont see any logic gains in turning turbo boost off unless it screws up duo core software.

Guys, have anybody got BFBC2 working online with Dells new beta driver?

I just keep getting kicked by punkbuster for having multiple d3d drivcers loaded :(
    Also happens on COD WOW

From what I've seen, overclocking should help the minimum FPS. Could probably be used in games where you have too low dips.

Everyone - as mentioned in my R1 thread. Why dont you choose a certain part of BFBC2, single player, 1 mission, 1 section. Exampe (cold war, section 2 (tank, men, rocket launchers approx 20 enemies). Run fraps on logging (f11). So this means when the mission starts wait a couple of seconds for it to load up, hit f11 play through the section, when you get to the end hit f11 again to end. Restart the mission.. do this 3 times for each setting. This is why I choose a short mission. Then change your I7 or I5 cpu settings and repeat the mission 3 times with new settings. Check the logs in c:\fraps\frapslog.log and look at the min max and average. You will quickly see which setting is best for this game. Good luck, StevenX

    Hi Steven,

I have been trying to do this, but been stuck sorting out optimus issues and installing/tweaking my new ssd. Will try and do it tonight on both my R1 and R2

Ninja - Thanks. I have the R1 stuff sorted. Completely! I am now able to get average of high 30s to low 40s in single and multiplayer. The patch helped a bit. I am still trying to figure out more about the audiohg.exe file. It does something with sound stream into windows. Oh well.. I am at work now and I will get it figured out with a process trace or something. The bottom line.. the M11x can and will play BFBC2. That includes the R2 based on the initial feedback. Doing all this makes me want to go back to ARMA2 and see if I can keep it above 20fps in large firefights.

    Best wishes,

    StevenX

Well if I can get the wife to watch some crap TV I wget online tonight and spend some time tweaking the R1.

Steven, I meant to ask you, I notice you are running on discrete, did you try the original Dell drivers with BFBC2? I wondered if maybe I get such low frames per second compared to you?

Ninja - Sorry.. I prolly typed the wrong thing. I am using the nvidia 335 only. I never switch so I set it to dedicated in the bios. I only want max performance, I never utilized the intel 4500. Drivers are the 258.49 and I really like them so far. COD MW2 completely maxed, max rez, max settings, all features enabled and it plays like a dream! I tell you .. minus the quirk here and there this has probably been one of my all time favorite machines...

i still love my R1, as I love the fact it runs so cool, so if I can get fps like yours I am really tempted to return the R2!

Just started tweaking, will take my results to your other thread :)
