I know alot of people opt for a vertex 2 due to its pricing. I don't think the r2 has a sata 3 controller, so that may be a reason why they opt for the vertex 2 instead of a vertex 3, even though sata 3 is backwards compatible. If this is the case for the r3 you may want to go with a vertex 2 and save some money, although I don't believe its different in the r3 - if it is someone will likely correct me.

I've heard of multiple intel ssds experiencing failures so I would avoid that if at all possible. Can't really go wrong with ocz, haven't really seen any complaints, given the usual ssd pricing rants.
I would check the return policy in any scenario because ssds can be hit and miss.

    Dont forge the power consumption.

    Vertex 3 120gb:
    use - 3W
    idle - 1.65W

    Intel 320 120gb:
    use - 0.15W
    idle - 0.10W

I was thinking, going for a vertex 3. But after looking at the power use, I want the Intel for a notebook. I think the difference in power use will be noticable in battery time.

If you ant sata 6gbs, go for the Intel 510: use - 0.38W and idle - 0.10W but worse random iops

Oh gawd I just bought a sata 3 crucial 256 with clone cable and disk . If the r3 isn't sata 3 compatable was it worth it. Could anyone confirm if it is Sara 3 compatable and If I gave bought a decent SSd

I don't know how important price is to you, but I would actually recommend getting a SATA-2 SSD, like an Intel 310 120GB or an OCZ Vertex 2 120GB.

You won't really get any real-world performance difference between something like an OCZ Vertex 2 --> OCZ Vertex 3. Sure, they look great on paper, because they rip apart some benchmarks. But in real-world performance, your Alienware M11x R3 will be bottlenecked at the CPU to the point that the small performance advantage of a SATA-3 drive will not be noticeable.

    1) Yes, the M11x R3 is SATA-3 compatible.
    2) Yes, it's fine.
