Just a poll to see what rev of M11x users here are using. I just picked up a refurb M11x for $499 from the Dell Cyber Monday sale. R1, SU7300, 4GB RAM, 250GB 7200RPM HDD.

I bought an M11x at initial R1 launch, but sold it, kinda regretted it, now I will have one back again! lol.

Note: I should have allowed multiple selection in the poll, as I'm sure there's a few owners of both. But I guess not enough to make a difference.

It was a 12 hour only deal through Dell.com's outlet Ex3beatnik. $499 before taxes and shipping.

Last time I heard, no country other than the USA does refurbs/outlet computers sold to the public. All countries will do refurb'd replacements but I think only the USA does public refurb sales and that's a Canadian link. The link I opened showed brand new full priced rigs.

r1 baby, r2 isn't really an upgrade unless you prefer lil boost in performance especially in cpu bound games, more heat, lesser battery life, buggy optimus(full manual control of your gpu is better), and paying $300-$500 for an icore.

Hmm, specs of the SU7300 refurb says "Optimus". Maybe just an error?

edit: says (intel core i5 and i7 only) - good! :)

For approx 12 hours, both. Otherwise, M11xr1-->M11xr2 (SU7300-->640um)

R1, I am not paying proper gaming laptop money for a R2.

R2, because I'll pay $100 for a better cpu, soft touch black finish, and Optimus.

I do empathize with non-Americans who have to pay 2 to 3 times more for the upgrade though.

If I could have bought an R2 for $100 more than I got my R1 I would have jumped at it. But for $499 for the R1 I couldn't pass it up. The R2 costs $949, and cheapest I've seen with discounts I think is $799. I would like the soft touch finish, and faster CPU would be nice, but I'm more interested in battery life.

R2, I got it a few weeks ago, and here the i5 was like $40 more than the C2D CPU

    I've now purchased 2 R1s.
The R2 is tempting, but the R1 is such a better value right now.

If that's the case then why not get an Acer 3820TG? :p Same size as M11x, 13" screen, HD 5650, i3/i5/i7 (mobile not ULV), excellent cooling. :p I was debating to get the 3820TG, but it cost $775 when all was said and done, but still cheaper than the i5/i7 M11x. Then this M11x came up for $499, couldn't pass up that deal, even with tax, it's still about $250 cheaper.

pound for pound, r1 is still the best in terms of performance/pricing/battery etc.. to add another $400-600 for an i7 that offers lil performance and still a ulv and pay upwards of $1,100 is kind of foolish to me, you could have gotten a real icore laptop for that but I understand that some people will pay more just to have the best for bragging rights and not be practical about it ;)

I actually didn't even know about the 4820 and 3820 until shortly after ordering my m11x and was almost kicking myself, but once I found out about the difference in warranty service I knew Acer would never be an option. Mailing a laptop out for service vs. next-day on-site repairs? No competition :D

I paid Dell $800 for my R2 with i7, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD and the BT module included. No R1 deal I've seen can come anywhere close to that.

Here's one funny thing though: I like BFBC2 and neither one can really play it well -- the R2 because of Optimus and the R1 because of crappy processors :p

That's a great deal for $800 with the i7 and that should have been the price range of the r2 in the first place IMO, or at least under a grand. Anyway did you buy yours brand new with discounts/coupons or was it a dell outlet refurb deal or bought it from the forums?

Refurb from the Dell outlet. Dell's warranty service is so good I honestly don't see myself ever buying new from them again unless I can't find the exact specs I want...

Even if the tech in your service region is an idiot and screws up your laptop, Dell MUST replace it after 4 services.

Personally, as long as I can return it or have it repaired for free in a decent amount of time is all I care about really. I have another laptop so it's not as important to me. I just obviously would prefer a smaller, lighter one with a much longer battery life. And for $499, I can't complain, it still has a full year warranty for repair/replacement. Considering my next full size laptop will be a 17" I think this will be a good supplement laptop for on the go.

Their warranty service is notoriously horrific. Acer makes you pay ~$40 for shipping and I think it takes roughly 2 weeks for the repairs... if you're lucky.

I was gonna say. $800 for that config for new is awesome. Still not bad for refurb, but that'd be like $500 off a new config. I don't think Dell has ever had that significant of a discount, ever.

When I priced a new R2 with the exact same specs it came out to ~$1,100 (with a coupon) I think, so the savings were closer to $300.
