I've seen several posts of people that ordered a refurb unit and was thinking of doing the same. What i wanted to know was if anyone has theirs yet and what kind of condition it was in. How close to 'new'?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that link, hmm, he didn't sound too happy. I wonder if all are like that? Anyone else received theirs? The description on the Dell outlet site says that it "may" have some scratches...lol.

Just wanted you to know that I received my refurb M11X 4 days ago. And it looks brand new. Only problem I have had so far was i bought one with 4gb ram. When I pulled it up on my pc details it showed I just had 2gb. I just opened it up pulled both of and reinstalled them and bingo! It now shows the 4gb. Seems how ever put the ram in just did not get it in there right. Also my right front grill light is not as bright as the left. I called them on it and they are overnight me the new part for the fix. They said they will walk me threw it or send out a tech to do it for me. So as far as i am concerned they have great customer service and I love the computer. Not bad for $669 with a year warranty.
-
I got mine as well. I didn't notice any scratches for the dell certified version. I got the Pentium SU 4100 version with 4 gigs of ram, 320 hd, and wifi N. I am quite happy with my purchase
-
Well guys, mine arrived this morning, and after reading the post about the scratched up version the one poster got, I was pleasantly surprised to find my certified refurb immaculate. no scratches, no smudging on the screen by keyboard, no misalignment of the screen and hinges, nada. Looked brand new to me, didn't even have a fingerprint on it.
fired it up, let it install, (that's a darned quick win7 install btw) and zoom. up and running. played around a bit, checking to make sure everything worked and it does. rebooted and turned on the o'clock and no glitches, no bsod's nothing. Soooo
appears that this dell outlet thing was a deal
Mine was a 'cheapie' coming in at 639. installing the 500 WDBlack in a few minutes .
So far I consider this a real deal.

I received mine the other day and cosmetically is looks great. Minor issues though...if I look at the screen at an angle light comes through a little bit on on the side/edge of the screen, the vent is partially blocked by padding? and last I notice that some of the baffles on the exhaust grill on the are a little bent in some spots.
With the 20% off I feel confident in my purchase and don't miss not having any of the box candy. -
Does the certified refurb from Dell outlet have a metal nameplate on the back? If so, what does it say?
-
Mine is a Dell recertified, when I get it in I'll report back on it's condition. I specifically chose a recerted one because it didn't list damage on it's description like the scratch n' dents did. I'll find out on Monday for sure. . .
-
I had a pretty interesting experience. Bought one for $640 after tax (R1), received it, returned my open box from Microcenter and then realized the Scratch and Dent Model I got on the Outlet had the hinge issue.
e.
After about 20 minutes on the phone I was taken care of, guy came out and put on a new LCD and problem solved.
I didn't mention that I got the wrong AC Adapter, which is kind of large (Generic Dell, not the OEM Adapter). So I called today, and the guy was totally clueless, didn't understand what I was discussing at all.
I'm going to try again, but a huge AC Adapter makes an 11.6" Ultraportable less Ultraportable in my opinion.
Outside of that, mine was basically new. Obviously the warranty holds water! -
My re-certified R1 came in last Friday. I've got two very light, small scratches and a tiny nick on the lid. Something I only noticed because I was looking for it. No hinge issue, at least not yet. Small marks on the screen from where it rests on the little rubber spacers that sit on each side of the keyboard, so they're on the borders. That's it. So aside from the nitpicks from going over it with a fine tooth comb, I'm very happy with this little guy.
Alienware M11x R1 - SU7100 -
I will report on mine when it arrives tomorrow. MY last two (15 and 17 ) Looked great but failed to boot. They looks great though..LOL I won't mind if it gets scratched. The E1705 I'm typing this on looks like its been dragged behind a pick up truck. But it has never even hiccuped. No BSODS. Unloaded XP and loaded WIN 7 U. NY only issue is the sizr for where I use it. (Living room)
I likely will open it run .....gawk at it.......The send it back. (even if they offer me $100 to keep it because the TacTX Keyboard won't be there as listed on the feature list and the hinge issue if it is a hair off)..... I don't know why they are listing that accessory on the refurbs but it's on every one of them and on NONE of the NEW ones!! -

A good practice is to reseat the memory before even trying to power it up. Mem gets loose in shipping. If it then fails to boot up, contact dell and let them troubleshoot from that point. BW, StevenX

I will probably send mine back and get this.....
ASUS N82JQ-A1 - XOTIC PC ASUS N82 Custom Laptop
http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-N82JQ-A1...3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1284094241&sr=1-3 Amazon.com
The Amazon model has the DX 11 5730 ATI card which is faster than the GT335....but a smaller drive at 320GB....
Give up battery life for a little larger screen, much more power, 2 year Warranty plus one year accidental included. Downside is no onsite...But the cost of my Dell refurb plus a $300 warranty would buy this new.... -
I got mine on Monday and it was almost perfect. No scratches just some exposed glue by the rubber feet and the right grill light wasn't as bright. Although I'm really wondering how much do you guys think I can get from dell since I didn't get a tactx keyboard? Also random thing.. How bright is the exhaust fan light? I can hardly see mine. Otherwise I think I got a pretty good deal for an r2

@Kingfrog - your link shows it has the 335m GT. It's an ASUS. So it should be ok.. Personal pref I guess.

Still waing on the UPS man.....FIRST and foremost I WANT to want to keep the M11X. I want it to blow me away, be perfect for my needs......We shall see. I will still call Dell for a credit on the TacTx Keyboard promised in the listings. A missing $99 accessory in their OWN product component list should garner a few dollar credit.
The new G53 is looking rather nice as well...Really nice...
for $1500....

Ok just got 65 back for the issue with the Alienware tacx keyboard. So ended up getting a m11x r2 with 2 gb mem i-5 processor and 250 720 hard drive for 638. It is in good condition a tiny tiny little nick on the alienware head that only someone very pickie would notice. Love it but have to get used to a 11.6 inch screen.
-
So, I just received my refurbed m11x r2 from Dell yesterday. Also found that the TactX keyboard is missing.
Called Dell, and they told me that I could get any keyboard of my choice from Dell.com inclusive of free shipping! Was kindda hoping for a credit refund or something. Oh well, at least I get to choose a nice keyboard
Should I go ahead with the TactX guys? -
I would get keyboard its worth 100 I only got 65 credit
-
You know, all this keyboard discussion got me thinking...I was *sure* that when I ordered mine that it also said something about the tactx keyboard...but when i went back and looked at the shipping manifest they sent me notifying me that my unit had shipped, it wasn't on the list.
HOWEVER...the more I thought about it and searched my memory, I began to think...wait a minute, something funny here... SOOOO, i went clear back to the copy of the order I stored on the computer I ordered from...and guess what...both on that and the original confirmation of order in my email.....there it was..
I'm hitting the phone now...that's pretty underhanded...and *almost* got by me if you guys hadn't been fighting for what you ordered (and paid for for that matter) I'd have never thought about it.
Hearty thanks and a well derserved salute to you guys on this thread.
Seer -
Ha! I have the keyboard listed on my order confirmation too but I'm not having the same luck as you guys...reps are just trying to brush me off and don't want to see my proof!
-
I have it on my order confirmation as well and I should receive my laptop tomorrow - if it's not there I'll have to call in, I'll keep you updated!
-
Ok, just got off the phone with Dell support. Gave him my customer number, order number, date of the email, he pulled it up, confirmed keyboard was on bottom of confirmed order list, apologized on behalf of dell, took my phone number in case i got disco'd, told me he was transferring to customer service, that took about 20 secs for the call to transfer, got the new guy who already had my info ready, he apologized for the error, asked me where I wanted my tactx keyboard shipped He then asked me if I had had any issues with the unit I received, the condition of the packaging etc. When he got thru taking the info, his supervisor came on line, apologized on behalf of dell for failing to notice that the keyboard had not gotten included, told me they would rush it out and send me confirming email. Thanked me for buying Dell and hoped that I continued to enjoy my M11x and if there arose any issue, be sure and call back, and he gave me a direct dial line to use. Thanked me again and wished me a good evening.
Assuming the keyboard actually shows up that was the single best support incident I've ever had with a computer related company, and that's saying something. BTW, I confirmed as hamilcar has posted, that the darned thing costs 100.00 so its certainly 'material' to the deal.
Seer -
I don't think you could have made up a better support incident. Wow.
-
Here's a pretty good article on the entire Dell Outlet experience (on an M11x in particular):
http://reviewstash.com/viewtopic.php?id=1226 -
yep this site is very helpfull. My order did not mention the tactx keyboard in the order but it did have it on the order page. I was happy to get 65 back would have rather gotten keyboard since its worth 100 but I really dont need a keyboard.)
-
Yep mine had it listed too...its NOT listed on my actual order on the page, but its in my confirmation email, I will show them this. The only issue I have is I ordered a "Previously purcahed NEW" and it just got delayed til later this week...I dont get it, if its BUILT already, why would it need to be delayed?? ARGGG.
-
Ok just went back to my order and noticed tact x keyboard is on there as weel did not reralize it was spelled out so black and white. I already got 65 back can I refuse this and say I want the tactx keyboard instead.
-
God, I remember a run in I had with E-machines one time (before gateway bought em). Now THAT was brutal LOL.
Seer -
After reading these posts, I realized I didn't get a keyboard with my refurb either. When I called about it, I requested the mouse instead of the keyboard and they agreed.
-
Mine was listed when it stated M11xR2 939 click here.
but order conf email .. nothing listed.. I cant see it anywhere.
Also, 939 changed to 959?
*Edit! They refunded me the difference from 959.00 to 939.00. -
-
I bought one a month or so ago...Cleaned it out reformatted the entire drive loaded WIN 7 U and all the latest drivers except for Command Center No need for it instead using FXlite which I uninstalled. My keyboard is locked at blue and the Alienware logo red. Indicators are yellow. Everything else is off. All I wanted was some back lighting . Not a disco machine LOL.
I have not had issue on and don;t expect to since it has not been turned off in three weeks. I have run GTA liberty City and FSX on it without issues and completely playable. I used Sony Vegas to edit and render a 30 minute Video last night in MPG1....took about 30 minutes to render. I recorded 15 tracks of music on it using Sonar. All is good. Not quite like my desktop but certainly worth less than $700......Refurbs is the only way to go with Dell..BUT WAIT FOR A 20% OF COUPON...
Mine was $919 before the coupon. Then $735....Then I called to RMA it because they always offer another $100 or so to keep it. They offered me and credited my CC account with $90 bringing the final price down to $645..I have done this with ALL my Dells over the past 10 years or more.....No need to buy new...BTW ALL the Dells are still running. All were refurbs. none needed an Extended Warranty. The savings of the Extended warranties more than paid for this one!!!
If you have an issue with a new machine you will be getting refurb parts anyway.
Loving this but would not pay more than I did for it.. For a little over $600 I figure if I get a couple years before handing it down to a family member I will be happy. By then Netbooks will be more powerful -
Fee is $8.00 -
Yeah, CA has a "nice" LCD tax...

Just got my i5 M11x referbished. It is plastic..
Now I just woke up.. but I thought my Core2Duo one was all metal?
The only metal on this is the hard drive cover ( bottom cover )
This is lunar shadow grey.
The C2D was glossy black. I swear it was all metal
Am I wrong?
The C2D was from Best Buy.
The i5 is referbished. Dell Outlet.
I have tried to find an issue with the referbished. Smells new.. only thing I see is the lid sticks up about 1 milimeter in the front compared to the back.. ( that's when I pushed down on the center to push it tight and realized the plastic case ) The Core2Duo was tight.. So from viewing from the side it has a gap ( i5 ).
No name plate. Yep, it is just simply missing!
There was sticky prints BARELY... with the silver/grey lunar shadow.. I noticed a mark on it and it rubed off with rubbing alcahol .. like a sticker was removed and left residue. It was on the underside.. lid.. and hand rest.. Not much .. again being ' picky ' .
Screen is prestine.
Now then, the screen.. being used to the Core2Duo, the graphics was either on or off.. but still the screen looked more high def on the Core2Duo vs the i5. Maybe it is settings?.. Maybe it was because of me opening the box from Geek Squad setting up the Core2Duo vs referbished Dell erasing logs 4 days before I got the i5.. No clue. Different screens?.. No idea how to tell?
THAT'S IT! .. smells new cant find one mark on it. It came without my name on the fed ex.. so they delayed shipping it for the next day.. but then had a currier come with a CAR?? .. Fed Ex with a car?
I had called the night before asking the progress of the order.. they explained no name on the label.. I filled in the blanks.. So when they did the update on Fed Ex website' can not locate recipient ' I was upset.. I called and said I had filled in the blanks.. then went out.. Seems when I came home it was already delivered and the ' guy was kinda worried '.
The lunar shadow.. basically is a silver.. It doesn't look like the cool factor of the glossy black.. It is just silver with a alien head that seems to be black.. but grey/vs/chrome gives that appearence. I have no clue about the dull black R2. No idea if it's a rubber type like ASUS G73 hand rest.
IF need, I can simply buy 2000 grit sand paper.. carefully do a slight prime and paint.
THAT is what I liked about the " Thought " of the Core2Duo version being all metal.. that I could simply sand and paint if scuffed. Plastic? /ponder. -
All plastic. My m11x R1 is plastic, except for the bottom cover.
The glossyness is starting to annoy me, I'll probably switch it out for an i7 variant as soon as I get wind of Optimus working properly. -
I ordered my m11xR1 last week from the US DELL OUTLET, ensuring that the Alienware TactX Keyboard add-on was included in my "package" for $769.
On the order confirmation, the only thing remotely close to the Alienware TactX Keyboard is listed as "XPYJ5 1 Module,Keyboard,86,ENG-US,Alienware,PHTM "
I have a feeling that this isn't the TactX Keyboard so I've contacted Dell several times already to double check but they say wait for the package to arrive first before getting back to them. Am i getting the run-around from them right now? -
Edited: Oops, posted to the wrong thread!
-
Now the issue is they've given me a generic large Dell charger. Is the m11x supposed to have a smaller charger? -
The charger that comes with the M11x is one of the newer slim bodied adapters with the blue LED at the plug.
-
Do the other members who ordered from the dell outlet / certified refurbished get the original m11x charger or the generic dell charger? I'd love to get some information from the rest of you users!
-
I received the original m11x charger with mine ordered from dell outlet.
-
It's also only 65W, while my incomming R2 shows 90W -
My bad. I thought the 65W chargers for the R1 had the blue power indicator at the end of the plug too.
-
OOooooOOoOooOooooohhhhh......
SDo I schmell a smexxy powa adoipter coiming in!?!?!? ?
Bloo lights... -
I got my R1 in today from Dell outlet. Ordered on afternoon 10-14, arrived 10-19. I looked all over it, every inch. I can't find even a smudge on it. It had 04 bios, updated to 05. Runs perfect, no problems at all so far. The only detail that I guess I can see faulty is that the right front grill light is a tad (a very tad) dimmer than left.
Came with a 65w ac adapter. Its smaller than my other Dell power supplies, so I guess its the correct version. The larger ones have the same voltage and do work fine on the M11x.
Also bought a Alienware neoprene sleeve from newegg. Its awesome, fits the M11X perfectly and has a pocket that expands for the power supply and other items. I'm waiting for a external slim usb DVD burner to arrive still.
2 big thumbs up for Dell outlet! M11x R1, 4gb, bluetooth and 320 gb hard drive for under $700 shipped! -
I just got my R2 today (replacing my R1), from the outlet.
It does indeed have a "smexxy bloo like" on the end of it
Even though it's hard to see (due to where the power plug if on the m11x), it's still awesome!
Not a scratch, and they even included the 4 screws for the alienware nameplate I have
Anyone received a Dell Outlet refurb M11x?
