Just wondering if anyone has found some good settings to get PCSX2 to run well on their m11x, have OC-ed SU7300 on mine but, default settings and don't want to mess around with them too much.

Yes, lower the lower resolution or trade it in for M11xR2. PCSX2 is an emulator, so it's heavily CPU dependant. Also, since the native PS2 resolution is pretty much a QVGA. Dropping the resolution mean CPU doesn't have to work as hard and you won't have to scarifice much in term of quality.

Alot better since you can reach a higher clock speed, (2.66ghz) instead of 1.73ghz.

The ps2 emu only use one core anyway and only care about clock speeds.

I tried playing FFX on my R1, and while the main menu and such was always around 60FPS, as soon as that intro movie started (and when you first control Tidus) it dropped to a steady 45FPS. While this doesn't seem bad, it really is slow--the music lags behind which is the most notable, and the cutscene takes forever to finish.

On my rig with a p9500 at 2.53Ghz I could get FFX pretty fluid exept some dips in intensive fights and FFXII Acceptable with slowdowns quite frequently.

So unless you have the R2 which can OC and turbo boost to one core at 2.8ghz I wouldnt expect the Big ps2 titles to run smoothly.

No version of the M11X will run PCSX2 well, the power just isn't there, people on non-mobile I7's clocked much higher than the one in the M11X still experience trouble.

Well as mentioned on my previous post I managed to get the emulator quite playable on my old rig which has a lower clock rate than the i7 OCed on turbo boost.

So technically The R2 should pull it off.

Heh, I though you where saying it didn't work very well, you said it had dips quite frequently and hiccups on both games, and Final Fantasy is hardly the most demanding games to emulate.

Anyway, I wouldn't buy an R2 with the hope of playing PCSX2, because there is a very high chance you will end up disappointed. If you would get an R2 either way then go for it, but don't buy one for that purpose. So far in all the benches and such the I7 is only about 10-20% faster, and that isn't gonna be enough to take the emulation from unplayable to smooth.

Yeah agree with you there, to me if it works it will only be a bonus.

And yeah .. to me a slowdown now and then is not big deal to me, I still consider the game playable. Unplayable to me is more when it lags so bad the game lose sync .. or you are constantly on choppy <15fps

PCSX2 is very heavily multi-threaded. So the R2 should do better, but emulation is never perfect no matter what machine its running on.

Depends on the games. Shooters run great and some 3D fighters do too. I have not played games much lately though.

Regardless, I sure wish DOA2 worked on PSX2. I would love if that worked with the emulator. Oh well, works perfect on the DC emulator on the M11x :)
