Hi I have had my alienware for nearly a year now and I am getting frustrated with the lag I have been having while playing minecraft with friends.

My friend who is good wit computers helped me overclock my laptop and showed my to the program CPU-z and msi afterburner.

At first I was playing minecraft with over 150 fps consistently but recently it has dropped to below 50.

Also on the cpu-z program it now says 450 core speed and a 3 multiplier where it used to have 1400 core speed and a 13 multiplier.

Can someone please help to fix this problem.

    1. Minecraft lags. It just does. It's not well optimized at all and runs particularly bad on laptops in general. Even at 50fps there should be no visible lag or latency.

    2. That's your CPU throttling up and down, it will go anywhere from 100 to 2300 (depending on your power settings). It doesn't mean anything, the moment you start using more of the CPU it will instantaneously kick the clock speed back up to normal.

Thank you for your help but how can I make the laptop stay at around 2100 all the time instead of it changing all the time?

Are there any other ways of making my netbook run faster?

Would 8gb of ram make it perform any better?

Go into AlienFusion, in power settings set the minimum CPU state to 100% (as well as maximum). That will keep it at the stock clock. Then it gets an extra turbo boost (to the first core) whenever your CPU needs it.

Or you could use a 3rd party program like Throttlestop to keep it at max speed all the time, but you wouldn't have a need for it. The CPU bumps itself up instantly the moment you need it, there's no lag there which is going to slow you down. It goes into low power mode on idle to consume less energy for more battery life (and lower electricity bills). Why would you need all of your CPU power for it to idle on the desktop?

More RAM won't do anything unless you're maxing out your RAM multitasking. The best performance upgrade you can get would be replacing your mechanical drive with an SSD (if you haven't already).

By the way, what model M11x do you have? R1/2/3?

    I have a R2 btw.
My dad was helping me out optimize my PC, he is an IT technician but doesn't know too much about improving FPS in games...
I have seen other alienware mx11 do very high overclocking.
What settings should I use to overclock with and can you help we with the settings for the MSI afterburner if you can. Thanks for all the posts so far. :)

Edit: I checked on CPU-z and my core speed had increased to 1800 and multiplier to 12. Is there any other way to improve this?
