Hello everyone. Recently I did a system restore to undo a driver installation that was causing me problems and chaos ensued afterwards. Long story short, I ended up doing about three restores. I then noticed that while running games my CPU temperature increased by about two or three egrees than what it used to reach, getting to 80-82 (it never used to breach 80).

I had reinstalled windows back in March and the same thing happened afterwads: the CPU temperature went up significantly.

Is there an issue with Windows computers and restore that can lead to an increase in CPU temperature? I say Windows because I had the same issue with my old computer, a Compaq. After restoring it to factory settings, it ran at a significantly higher temperature permanently.

    Any help is appreciated.

Same thing happened a while back with my R1, except it was the GPU that was running slightly hotter than usual. The source of the problem turned out to be Alienware Command Centre running Alien Sense in the background without my knowledge. I only learned about this by checking the startup tab in CCleaner. I'd advise you to do the same by disabling any non-critical programmes from the startup. Aliensense just wouldn't disable so I decided to delete CC outright.

Thanks Bendak for your reply. The Alien Sense doesn't seem to be running upon startup. In fact, my CPU usage after I turn on the computer and everything settles down is between 2 and 5%, which I take as pretty acceptable for startup programs to be using, so I don't think the extra heat is due to excess programs taxing my CPU. But thanks for your help!
