    hi guys..

as the hinges of my M11x R1 broke 3 times already and one side already has a crack in it again I'm considering either to wait for the M11x R3 whenever it's going to be released or the Lenovo ThinkPad X220 ( click for upcoming specs ).

    Some Pro's of the X220:

    1. IPS display
    2. USB 3.0 port (only with i7 cpu)
    3. mSATA SSD (80GB intel 310 ssd)
    4. Slice battery (23h battery life with 9 cell,15h with 9 cell, 9h with 6 cell)

The biggest disadvantage of the X220 is the Intel® Integrated HD Graphics only but as I don't use the M11x for games mostly, it's not so crucial for me.

If the M11x R3 will really only have the hinges fixed, as Chris from DELL wrote on the forums and no hardware upgrades at all, I'll probably go for the Lenovo..

Any thoughts or comments from you guys besides the price which I believe will be higher for the X220..?

Just my two cents on the subject. It is comical, but if we somehow try to forget about "the display falling off and cracking open" problem, also known as "the hinges" issue - the m11x is a very sturdy, solid and well built, quality notebook. On the other hand, I checked out several new (Lenovo) Thinkpads and Ideapads and had the opposite impression - Lenovo felt a bit too thin, a bit flimsy, palmrest creaked a bit, and the plastic seemed a bit on the cheaper side.

Therefore, IF the hinge issue will be fixed for the R3 version of the m11x, I personally would expect the overall build quality of the m11x to be significantly superior to that of Lenovo.

Worth keeping it in mind if it matters for you.

It sounds like you have already found a better laptop for yourself. If you don't game, then you don't need an Alienware M11x. Get the Lenovo ThinkPad X220.

Especially since the Alienware M11x R3 is vaporware. There has not been any official announcement from Alienware or Dell regarding its release date, what specs it will have, or that it even exists. Reading a post from "some-guy-that-works-at-Dell" is as (un)reliable as hearsay.

I would recommend you make your decision based on actual availability and factual data when you need to buy, rather than sitting around waiting for vaporware.

It's simple. If you don't game, then m11x = pointless.

Yup, as others have said ... m11x is basically a waste of money if you don't game.
