Hi, i am looking to buy a M11x R3. I heard through the forums about the black friday, and thought maybe to wait till then to buy. I don't know much about it , since i'm not from the US.

It's a day when most of the stores give deals for they're products ? Even the online ones or just the "physical" ones ? The discounts are available only on that particular day ? Where would be best to look for offers then ? On the Alienware\Dell site or there are other online shops that can have cheaper offers ?

    Thanks

That is most certainly not true, there are a lot of vendors online that give discounts on black friday. I for one hang out at newegg.com for theirs. You have to react very quickly because items WILL sell out in under a few minutes.

I was on a chat session with a Dell rep and they mentioned there is no coupons for the alienware, but be for the look out for Black Friday coupons.

Do the Black Friday deals generally last for a week or is it a one-day thing?

Does anyone remember the type of discounts offered by Dell/AW during the 2010 Black Friday so we can know what to expect?

Brick and mortar stores (Best Buy, Walmart, etc.) typically have all the Black Friday deals while in the past few years online retailers have started having their deals on the following Monday terming it "Cyber Monday".

400? That's definitely a steal in terms of pricing for an R1. ;)

Oh ya, last year they had a BIG Black Friday sale.
This doesn't guarantee that they will do it again this year, but there is a very good chance.

So if there will be coupons, when will they appear, they will be available before the black friday, and they will only work on b. friday, or they will appear exactly on that day, that friday, and you have to be quick and on the lookout ?

Where do you guys usually look for coupons, on sites like retailmenot.com ?

Are there other places to buy other that the dell\alienware site ?

Be aware that there are currently supply issues with hard drives for the entire computer industry. Hard drive prices are 200% - 300% of what they were a month ago.

Waiting for any kind of coupon / discount / rebate from Dell on Black Friday is purely speculation at this point. And whatever discount you do get, will probably be counter-balanced by the high prices of mechanical HDDs.

Long Story Short: Don't bet on getting a $400 Alienware M11x. The lowest price you would likely be able to buy a new Alienware M11x anytime in the next 6 months will probably be around $800.

    I bought a WD Scorpio 750gb 7200 rpm for $130 a few days ago.. 200%-300% sounds a bit extreme...

And you can definitely find a sub $800 m11x on the dell outlet just check everyday. I got mine for under $600.

But when you configure the laptop on dell the prices are the same as before, upgrading the hdd from 320 to 500 is only 50$.

I don't expect the price to be 400$, that was for the previous generation, i'm hoping maybe to find the one with i5 for around 800$

I did get my M11x R1 from last year's black friday alienware deal
Think about $500 (base config without bluetooth)

Not sure if black friday deal is for non US customer, but it's definately available for US via online (at least that's how i got mine last year)

There's no guarantee that there will, or will not, be another Alienware Black Friday Sale this year

    Hope this help

They have a countdown on their website , with a few words like " NO ONE does Black Friday like Dell "

I'm pretty sure they will be some interesting deals.

Too bad it's for US only :(

For 25% off right now, check out this thread!

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/not...pon-monday-expires-january-31-a-new-post.html

Probably won't be able to combine with a Black Friday offer, though that would be an amazing deal. The 25% coupon can be claimed by Monday and expires on January 31. This would be the deal of the century if Dell offers a $600 M11x on Black Friday and keeps the price post-sale like they did last year.

    Yeah.

If the deals are incredible, I'm going to get it sent to a mail holding facility in New York and pick it up since I live 20min away from the US border. Problem is, though, I misplaced my passport, so I might have to send someone I know. I'd hate to get detained (4hrs last time) , screened and cavity searched again if I don't have the proper documents ...

Wow, thanks Michael for the tip ,now it's already in the price range i was looking for.
Don't know if to wait or not, but if you say the offer will last a while, then it's worth it.

P.S. How much is that tax that is applied after you configure the laptop, for a laptop value of 800$ ?

They've had that deal for months. From last year's Black Friday until the R3 came out the R1 could be found as low as $500 though so that isn't really a good deal. I'm assuming the R3 will be under $700 in a week :D.

Do you guys think i could make the order from another country on my friends account (who lives in US) , because he goes to work on that day, and he would be busy, plus here is USA time +7h ? I haven't tried it yet so i don't know if it would work, i have to get him to make an account first. And how does the order go, they call you after you make it for confirmation ? You can pay when the laptop arrives or you have to do it by credit card ?

You could send him the money via paypal (you can even use your credit card) and then he buys it using his US address and then forwards it to you.

Another option would be to use mail forwarding services in the US and they could send it to you.

As for the time, it depends. Eastern US/Can is -5 behind London, UK.

I think it can't hurt to wait, the 25% off offer posted here lasts a couple of days after bf , so u can use it if there is no offer. It might be too late, since you are on the phone :). Let us know how it went.

@ Vodooi: I guess i can try paypal if they don't charge too much, i think mail forwarding would be expensive, haven't looked it up till now.

The question would be if i can use my friends account that he creates there in US, to make and order from here (Europe), i mean log in to his account and make the order after he fills in his address and everything else. Would there be any problems, would i have to provide some credit card information or something else, when finishing the order, or he can just pay when the laptop arrives ?

If you plan on ordering online with one of those generous -25% coupons for example through your friends' account, you will need to provide CC or paypal information to complete the order.

A problem you may encounter is using your CC under his info. A way around this may be to call up your CC company, change your address to your friends' and then place the order.

I had to do something similar when purchasing a US-only
M11XR1 as a Canadian (CC address change) or else they could freeze your account and take 15 business days to refund you.

So you can either change your address with your CC and order it yourself, or get him to pay for it and then pay him back.

The change of address seems a little extreme. :)

I can send him money, that is not a problem , i'm not really familiar with paying through credit card, can he fill in the CC information, and i will just pay directly not having to do anything else ?

When using a credit card and the form requires an address, the system tends to cross-check both the CC # and the address to make sure it matches, so this is why you would most likely need to temporarily change your address for the order. It's not really extreme, considering it takes 5 minutes on the phone and then another 5 minutes to re-change it once the laptop has shipped ;)

I believe sending paypal money as a gift has a 3%~ fee associated with it and Western Union is 4.99%, so doing the address change thing would be the most cost-effective way.

I used my Australian pre-paid credit card to purchase both an R2 & R3 m11x from the US Dell website (while in the US on holiday) and had no issues. I did however use the US postal address as the billing address, but it went through successfully none the less.

In addition, Dell has refunded me almost $1,300 in several transactions into the exact same prepaid credit card and there have been no issues at all, i in fact just received the final refund into my account today.

I just went on Alienware to check the prices of things after someone claimed they jacked things up. They want $880 dollars for 8 extra gigs of ram! That best be a typo or something, i mean seriously, i can go pick up 8 gigs of that ram for like nothing, i can go order 2 8 gig sticks, a total of 16 gigs for 200 bucks online right now. That is a insane price!

Dell is well known for their jacked-up upgrade prices... It's always best to get to BASE unit then upgrade it yourself since they allow users to upgrade the RAM/HDD themselves. I just paid $64 for 8GB 1600MHz Kingston HyperX, their 8GB kit of generic "Samsung" RAM costs more than that :/

I mean they want $1,000 just for 16GB of RAM, nobody with half a brain will pay that...

I heard from an employee that Dell will continue the $599 M11x tradition this year with a $599 R3. There is also a possibility for a huge R1 discount, which could bring it as low as $399. Well, we'll find out tomorrow...
