Yeah, I'm excited too. I bought mine on release day. Does anyone know what Status: Ship Complete means? I got my accessories today, but I've never heard of Ship Complete. I don't think it's the same as Shipped.

I've read the R3 screen is overall worse than the M11x R1 and R2, but I'm not so sure. The R1/R2 could never display such a deep shade of black:

Taken from a viewing angle video. Hmm I might actually buy the R3.

That dark screen effect is easy to fudge by using a dark room and messing with the focus.

    My replication at maximum brightness:

Thanks for doing that. It will be interesting to hear user reports on the new display. Even though I could get a new R1 for 60% less than the R3, performance can be 60% better in some R3 tests. I'm not sure that's enough to justify the cost without a screen upgrade. Though I would like the rubberized exterior.

You already had 2 r1s before and you tried selling one for a higher price than alienware because you said you are shipping much faster lol

Anyway why are buying another one? I thought you said you love your mac more.

Just waiting for an M11x with a better screen, period. I'd also prefer a 12" or 13" screen in the same size chassis. With next revision if they do a chassis change, they better make it more like an M12x.

It seems the UK orders are being shipped from China? Although I have seen a few posts mentioning the M11x will ship from Malaysia?

I am in the UK and ordered mine on release day. A few days later I received an email that the expected delivery date was April 27. Yesterday I received an email with UPS tracking information. Current status shows:

China 25/04/2011 7:44 Order Processed: Ready for UPS
Shanghai, China 25/04/2011 23:25 Export Scan
Incheon, Korea, Republic of 26/04/2011 10:40 Departure Scan
Almaty, Kazakhstan 26/04/2011 17:09 Departure Scan

Fingers crossed it should arrive tomorrow.

From my point of view, for Asia Pacific regions, laptops are produced mostly in China or in Singapore.

For those of you who are living in US, I think laptops are produced there but the parts will be from China.

Personally, I don't really like products that are produced in China. They lack finishing touches.

No offence for those who are Chinese.

I bought 2 R1s at the same time with an intent of keeping the second sealed and reselling it since I got an alright deal. There's no point in having 2 :p. There were a few things I didn't like about the R1 so I figured I would sell it (but Amazon let me return it without an issue) and wait to see what the R3 is like. My main complaint was with the screen, but the R3's screen is reportedly worse. So since I have a 20% off coupon, I may buy another R1 and keep it this time :D, possibly selling it for the R4.

I know, I know, embarrassing buyer's remorse got the best of me the first time. That's why I always buy things within the first few weeks they come out so I don't have to worry about newer models for a while. I can't really pass up a new $500 R1, can I?

The main reason I bought my R1 was because it costs $500. Great value if you ask me. But $1200+ for an R3 is absurd IMHO.

It's a little stupid of a buy though since the M11x R1 is only 10% better than my MacBook Pro for games on average. The R3 could be almost twice as fast, though. Just wish it didn't have such an inferior screen.

There's no way the 335M can be 10% faster then a 9600M GT. The R1 is CPU bottlenecked.

Do you think that's too high or too low? The M11x gets 600 more points in 3DMark 06 vs the 2008 unibody MacBook Pro. In some games that difference is bigger, particularly Crysis.

ditto on the screen comparison ... or as much info as you can give on the screen if you didn't have an R1 or R2.

And maybe some battery life info?

Do you think with Sandy Bridge and a more powerful gpu that the R3 will be able to play ARMA 2 at a good setting.

Given the relatively modest GPU boost probably not.

If an overclocked (with TS) R2 coupled with an overclocked 335m wasn't offering "playable" framerates at the required settings it is unlikely that the R3 will suddenly make it playable at the same settings.

If however the R2 was right on the borderline then the R3 might just push it into being playable.

Congrats! If you aren't too busy with your new system, could you do a comparison of the R2 and R3 screens? I only have a day to decide whether to buy an R1 and R3, and I would only get a R3 if the screen was improved, but I read before it's actually worse.

So far very quiet....installing starcraft 2 now... and it's an AOU monitor. It's very clear and bright but the color for now is leaning toward cool side, a very very very slight bluish tint. Not as good as the LG on my R2 but not bad. Will try to check out high def video and see

More specifically, how are the display's contrast ratio and black levels compared to the R2? Also, are vertical viewing angles any better?

Viewing angle is ok side to side, vertical is not good. It's bad when screen is tilted toward you, get washed out when you overlook it but its very good when u tilt it back. Pretty much face to face with it is fine.

It's approximately in the same quality as the R2 screen. I see your signature has a macbook pro. When comparing R3 screen to Macbook pro, there is no comparison, macbook pro excel it by a wide margin. However as one editor said, there's simply not many maker making 11.6 in out there so it's decent relative to its lack of choice and compare with R1 R2 I owned.

Contrast ratio is same as R2 and R1. Macbook pro still beats it by quite a bit but it's not bad by any means.

Howard I want you to be honest with me, do you remember last year with our r1's when the r1 running the intel card being idle or just light surfing and the fan would just come on randomly at full blast. Is the fan totally quiet when running integrated card and surfing and it no longer goes crazy?

    I remember that crazy r1 fan......just like my ex's temper :D

When doing browsing and movie and youtube, its either completely silent or fan come on sometimes and off, but still quiet like R2. It does not have the crazy R1 behavior.

However when you play game or run vantage like I'm doing now the fan is nuts..constant loud like hair dryer. But it quiets down as soon as you quit game.

but it quiets down when u exit the game and benchmark.

The service manual for the M11x r3 shows one exactly like the Dell Wireless 365:
    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/Alw_M11xR3/en/SM/btboard.htm#wp1213253

The DW375 attaches with a cable instead of a built-in connector. Can anyone take a look to tell for sure? They might've just copy/pasted that part of the manual from the previous model!

Edit: It uses the cable for sure, even in an m11x r3. Getting an adapter with the right cable was proving difficult but I discovered that the cable was already present in the notebook even though the adapter wasn't. I had to take it apart myself to find out though because the tear-downs all had BT adapters. :)
