Hi ya'll, hope I don't get immediate hatred for not performing the search function but having a hard time navigating the forum.

I recently revamped my old M11X, got windows 10 up and running, looking to use this laptop for coding in school. Tired of my mac..

My hinge is broken, as you can expect from the title. I was wondering, if anyone had any advice for me.

Does Dell/Alienware still do the repairs if I send my laptop in? Or should I settle for a home remedy?

Also, the left hinge is completely broken, already tried my luck in praying that I just needed to tighten the screws, but it is definitely completely severed.

Any advice, tips, or links to other threads/websites would be appreciated, I'm new so don't be too hard on me if this is a regular thing!

This was a problem with the M11X R1/R2. Dell ended up doing a recall on the original hinge design and replaced the entire screen assembly with an improved, reinforced hinge free of charge for those with the original hinge; and even for those with expired warranties. However, this program ended years ago as far as I know.

Your best solution is to replace the entire screen assembly with one that has the reinforced hinge already installed. Replacing the hinge itself requires removing the front plastic cover which is held on with strong adhesive tape. Upon removal you're sure to damage the tape and will have to replace it. Along the way you will end up with loads of dust and debris between the cover and the panel which may or may not bother you.

Here are the part numbers for the reinforced hinge screen assemblies. Credit goes to DellChrisM (I copied this from his post in the thread linked below). Make sure to get the color that matches your laptop.

    * Soft Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part GNJW3, New part 40GMX)
    * Soft Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part YYYV5, New part 8JJT2)
    * Black WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part 757TW, New part 4FFHC)
    * Black WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part VT7K8, New part R2Y7G)
    * Gray WLAN LCD Assembly (Old part PKYWD, New part YMM9R)
    * Gray WWAN LCD Assembly (Old part 6CVDV, New part KKH9C)

The WWAN assemblies have an extra two antenna wires for the extra WWAN slot. If the price difference is not that big, just get the WWAN assembly as it doesn't hurt to have an extra two antenna wires.

The hinge by itself is Dell part number: M5W7C

About us still doing the replacement, unfortunately no. We no longer have stock for this and we announced that we weren't going to do any more replacements a couple years ago.

I just had this issue on my m11x r2. I just ended up buying a whole new screen assembly off of ebay for like $35 bucks. Installation was a breeze after watching a tear down video on youtube.

Yeah, complete panel assemblies are cheap nowadays. It's cheaper to change just the hinges, but not worth the hassle.
