I recently updated my AlienSense software and now when I try logging in using my face, it seems to be more difficult. The software used to turn on a white background to better light up my face, but now it never goes to a white background. Is there a way to turn this on as an option in AlienSense?

and by the way, AlienSense does not work. Its just a gimmick. I have my TWIN bro do it and we look somewhat similar but not the same. He got in within 2 seconds. I tried it myself and I couldnt get in.

The best advice is to disable this feature, remove it from startup (msconfig) and make sure all the services are either removed or disabled.

This is not with the intention of being rude, but it's just like the others have said. It's very gimicky.

    Best Wishes, StevenX

More importantly, AlienSense sucks up a ton of resources, even when idle. It's a cool gimmick, but definitely disable it.

    1) Go into Alienware Command Center. Go into the Alien Sense tab. Turn that setting to "Disabled".

    2) Go into Windows Control Panel --> Adminstrative Tools --> Services. Find the "FAService" service. Stop it, and Disable it from starting up again.

    3) While you are at it, you might also want to find the "Alienware Fusion" service, and stop + disable that too. That is Alienware's power management tool, which causes some problems with dimming the screen when the machine is idle, but not returning the screen to the correct brightness when no longer idle. Just use Windows 7 power management instead, if you choose to disable this.

Thank you all very much for this discussion. I work for the manufacturer of AlienSense and FastAccess (on Dell laptops/monitors) and would like to offer myself as a resource for additional information and concerns about the software.

You are quite correct that traditionally, facial recognition offerings have been little more than half developed toys. FastAccess/AlienSense actually comes from a far more robust background. It was developed for and continues to be used in high security industries such as hospitals and banks for many years before being offered to the general consumer. This allows it to be far more accurate, secure and convenient than any free download or offering from other laptop manufacturers.

For more information on the current set of topics, I'd strongly recommend taking a quick look at our FAQs. Photo recognition is addressed in detail on pages 12 and 13, questions #2, 3 and 4. Twins on page 7, question 10. Please also take a quick look at the first section, "Recognizing my face" as it talks about the learning algorithm and how it works.

I'd be very pleased to continue the conversation and address any detailed questions or concerns that you all might have.

    Thanks.
