i'm new, too, and it looks like i bought exactly the same system as you. afterwards, i spent a week wondering if i should have upgraded to an r2. for me, it really depends on whether my r1 will run stable when overclocked. if so, the performance difference between r1 and r2 won't be significant for the games i play--at least, not significant enough to justify the addition cost for upgrading.

there are lots of threads on hdd upgrades and mice. have a look around and you'll probably find a lot of advice!

Yup. It stuttered at a few points when there was a lot going on (likely the CPU to blame for that), but otherwise was very playable on medium settings.

I usually operate it left-handed, though it is user-configurable to accomodate either hand - or even both at the same time.

Yes, it works - however the driver used for controlling the two sides of the keyboard is a bit dated (and not likely to be updated anytime soon), so performance suffers a bit. You can get better performance using drivers straight from the separate manufacturers of the left and right sides of the keyboard, but you'll have to manually select which to use via the BIOS.

I was under the impression that the BIOS A05 was supposed to sync the two sides making them available to download on the dell driver/download site together.

That "sim slot" is actually an option WWAN card, available as an option the US. It should be fully functional if you opt for it though, as long as your service provider is down for it.

Yes, but that BIOS update also causes issues with the latest release of Pong 3D Over 9000. Your choice :)

As I mentioned in the other thread, I don't have any major issues with it. I don't use it for anything terribly intense (mostly Android development and testing), but it handles that much just fine.

I have read some issues over on ubuntuforums.org - the nvidia card is still powered up even if you're using the intel card, for example. I've started running the nvidia card 90% of the time anyway, so no biggie - I just have that set in BIOS and change it to Intel and run Windows if I really feel like sipping power. Otherwise, pretty much everything works. Haven't tried AlienFX Lite on Linux yet, but I understand it works pretty well.
