Guys I have a favor to ask somebody who owns an M11x R1.

Basically I've been having problems with my SD card reader on my M11x R1 - it's not recognized. And I can't remember if it has ever worked or not.

The driver from the dell website doesn't seem to make a difference, neither does the one from the Jmicron website.

HOWEVER, I just had a look on the M11x R2 dell driver page and they actually have TWO separate drivers for the 1394 and the SD card, whereas the R1 only lists ONE for both (makes sense, its the same chip that controls both).

Since the SD card reader is the same chip on both R1 and R2 (both use Jmicron380) I thought I'd try the R2 SD card driver.

Lo and behold when I tried to install that driver the installer came up and said "No such device detected" which it has never done before on any other driver.

SOOOOOO....I was wondering whether it might be a different revision jmicron380 on the R2 or just my laptop.

Thats why I wanted to ask one of you R1 owners out there if you could please do this short experiment and also see if you get the "No such device detected" if you try and install the R2 SD card driver.

It would defo help me troubleshoot! Thank you very much for your help! I really appreciate it. :)

wpdfs.inf <-- inf file listed in properties when SD card is plugged in.

    windows\system32\drivers\umdf\wpdfs.dll
    ............................drivers\wudfrd.sys

    Location Paths:
    UMBROOT(0)#UMB(WpdBusEnumRoot)#UMB(STORAGE#VOLUME#_??_SCSI#DISK&VEN_JMCR&PROD_SD#MMC&REV_#5&16999F42&0&000000#)

    File version: 6.1.7600.16385 (Microsoft) (win7_rtm.090713-1255)

Sorry, not planning to change/alter/test my driver config. The above is what I see when poking about device manager when an SD card was inserted.

I can tell you the SD card slot does work on an M11xR1.

I pop my Sony memory stick from phone via an adapter into the SD slot and it works fine.

    Mine uses the following:

    JMB38X SD/MCC Host Controller

    Driver Provider: JMicron Technology Corp
    Driver Date: 23/09/2009
    Driver Version: 1.0.34.2
    Digital Signer: Microsoft

Yeah, look for "Memory Technology Driver" with two sub entries:

    JMB38X MS Host Controller
    JMB38X SD/MCC Host Controller

Driver date will be the same for both. In my system its the same as DrG

I've got the same problem as the OP, my SD card reader (not sure about the 1394 since i have nothing that'll plug into it) isn't detected even after the R1 Jmicron driver install (both the package from Dell and the one from the Jmicron website) nor does it come up under device manager at all. Its as if as far as windows is concerned it doesn't exist.
