Well I'm pretty sure most of the processes are system processes, but I'm not sure if there are any that you could turn off

Your best option is simply to go into msconfig - check whats in startup and remove what you don't need.

But 70 seems fine - I have 77 running right now and some of these are the hard drive protection services etc.

thats what i seen on my stock M11x. you can disable some stuff from starting up by going into msconfig and messing around in there. (hold windows key and "R" to bring up run command and type "msconfig")

right now i have 40-50 processes on a fresh install i did after i installed a new HDD.

I have 94 processes running right now. It's perfectly fine, on boot I have about the same as you. The only way to downgrade it is if you do a fresh install on your hard drive but I'm waiting until I upgrade to an SSD before I do that.
