So it looks like my graphics card is dead, anyone know where to get a replacement for cheap? Or would I be better off just upgrading to a R3 from my R1?

isn't the 335m soldered to the motherboard?

Your looking at between 150-250$ to replace it. Its the whole motherboard that you need to replace.

Let me know if you just want to sell it outright. My wife needs a new computer and she dont care about gaming.

Well I assume it died because it no longer shows on device manager, only the intel card shows. I tried installing the newest drivers and they say that they can't find compatible hardware, I even tried switching my graphics options from switchable to discrete and nothing there either.

Edit: If I get a new motherboard would I be able to grab an R2 or R3 motherboard or would it not work?

No you cant put a r2/r3 board in. It wont fit and the ports wont line up.

What you need for optimus to work is Intel drivers, otherwise Nvidia drivers wont install as they wont detect the nvidia card. Update those first.

And if it actually is dead, and just came back to life as a zombie and gunna die soon again. R.I.P. i am sure it served well.

Oh right, my bad. Best choice to update all drivers or reinstall windows. Windows work in mysterious ways... as in crashes and dies for no reason what so ever... Thought windows 7 does that less it seems. Still windows...

I may be having the same problem, but I'm not sure. All the sudden, this morning I tried to switch my graphics on my R1 using the usual button presses and nothing happened. The nvidia box with the "power saver-->Performance" box came up, but the screen didn't flicker like normal and nothing changed. I thought it might be because I updated to the latest drivers, the ones meant for Optimus Systems, and that maybe they were causing problems, but I've installed the previous ones off of Dell's site under the 335M drivers and no dice. I'm also considering reinstalling windows, but that's a huge pain so I want to try to avoid it if possible. Any thoughts?

Yeah! I did mine too and it worked. I had to go into the BIOS, switch to 'discrete' and then reboot. Then I installed the 2nd release drivers from Dell(the ones after the original), rebooted again and now its just peachy :)

It sounds like you may have leftover/partially installed drivers from the reinstallation/driver switching. Try uninstalling all of your graphics drivers (even the intel drivers) and (optionally), run driversweeper. Then reinstall the official dell drivers from the website and start fresh from there. If that doesn't sort it, a system restore or reformat is probably the best way to go.

or you could just uninstall all the graphics drivers, reboot and switch to discrete graphics in the bios, and then install the latest verde drivers directly of the nvidia website.
