    1. am buying an intel x-25m G2 80gb SSD, it is 80gb only..now what do i put in it? i have a 500gb for an external hdisk and is wondering what essential applications anyone here may recommend i.e. OS + ms office.

    2. Im using an R1 and figured out a way to make 260.99 +intel 2020 hybrid switchable drivers (basing from Nautis' work from his older drivers of course), and was amazed that the NVIDIA chip powers down at the very instant i switched to intel (no more 15-min wait period for the nvidia chip to power down), confirmed with battery meter that power consumption is down and nvidia chip is powered off and not present in device manager. I was thinking of posting it here right away but should i wait for nautis to have a look at it?

EDIT: Drivers posted in new thread.

OS + pagefile.sys and etc and anything requiring fast 'disk' access.
USB 2.0 external HDD have pretty slow transfer rates compared to an internal 7200RPM HDD

My external WD320 USB HDD has a transfer rate of 20MB/Sec
My internal Seagate 500GB 7200RPM has a transfer rate of 100MB/sec.

These stats are sourced via HDTune v2.55

Observation? Problem? Or just topic of interest?

I thought it was good that it just powered down straight away.
Are you worried about cooling the GPU before it powers off?

It is true that my older drivers maintained the nVidia GPU for a good 10-15 minutes before it powered down.
Now I seem to remember someone telling me that it was just a configuration setting...or something.

i wanna utilize every GB of my intel x-25m G2..its only 80GB...so it will be OS + pagefile + ms office for the meantime?

and yes i was very happy to finally be able to switch off the nvidia instantly upon switching...the extra 15 minutes saved is worth like an hour for the intel graphics.

So you're saying you have switchable GPU drivers for the R1, which include very recent Nvidia drivers? And it works?
Then what are you waiting for? :D A lot of people (myself included) can't wait for these drivers! :) You will be like a god if they work

    On topic:

I have a 60GB Vertex SSD and I put the OS on it (duhh :p). I also installed selected Office 2010 programs, since I only use a few. My music, so it's always with me. A couple of games, only the ones I actively play at the moment. That's about it. I have 15-20GB free, so I'm happy :)

Just FYI, an SSD typically runs faster when you do not use every single last sliver of storage space. Keeping about 20% space free allows the drive the space it needs to effectively do things like garbage collection and wear leveling.

You can easily install OS + applications + pagefile + a few games on your SSD, and still have plenty of space left over. The only thing that really uses space on people's computers is media... videos, music, and pictures. Keep those off your SSD (put them on a large external USB hard drive based instead), and your 80GB will be more than enough for what you need.

I'll upload it here tomorrow when i come back at the office, check back here after 12 hours, believe me it works, tested it and made sure it switches properly and nvidia is switched off instantly without delay. Though i cannot take any credit, thank nautis, it was his work from a previous generation of drivers that made this all possible.

At first i was dissapointed about having an 80gb SSD, havent installed anything on it, but upon hearing that you have a 60GB and still have 15-20gb made me reconsider, guess this 250gb will just be an external drive then, will install the 80gb tomorrow after work.

EDIT: Drivers posted in new thread.
