So - I have my m11x plugged into my HDTV. However, whenever I see something in full screen the edges are cut off (IE, firefox, or a movie in full screen). I tried to set a custom resolution within the NVIDIA control panel, but that option wasn't available.

Is this a problem fixable within my HDTV or is it a setting in my m11x? I know when I have the same setup on my desktop, I need to set a custom resolution in the NVIDIA Control Panel, which isn't available on my laptop.

Although I watch most TV (Sony Bravia) in Wide Mode:Full, Im wondering if it needs to be set to 'normal', in order to not crop the sides.
((I wont use Wide or Wide zoom, it does crop the sides of everything))
OR does that 'normal' TV display mode (4x3) wreck the picture? Wondering. -hubs-

My TV settings has Wide, Zoom, Cinema, and Standard. Zoom and Cinema distort the picture. Standard makes it the standard 4:3, which isn't right. Wide is the setting i'm using.

Might I suggest the NVIDIA site to find out if you have the best possible driver for your card.
I did up my driver (on NVIDIA) instead of Dell. Im not sure what the M11x uses for drivers.

NVIDIA Driver Downloads - Automatically Detect NVIDIA Products

Hope it helps OR someone with M11x would jump in.

sounds like you need to change the image to normal and then change the resolution to a 16:9 resolution and make sure you have the most up to date nvidia drivers. after that if it doesn't work and your using hdmi switch to display port.

or the other way if your using display port.
    edit
    first try this...
Not sure but you might have to go in and enable advanced options to do custom resolution. Its been a while since i used Nvidia like a little over a year ago when i actually had a working computer that could play games. so not sure what has been changed.

Right click anywhere on the screen and go into Nvidia control panel. The first thing I like to do is go to set up multiple displays and turn the lcd off and just the tv on, otherwise you can just close the lid. From there if you go to adjust desktop size and position (when its plugged into the tv) it will bring up a screen that lets you shrink it or expand it to the proper size for your tv, i found mine was an odd resolution just a bit off (it would cut off the bottom bar for WoW) and click apply and everything will snap to the new resolution and fit properly.

If you have any other questions about it you can PM me.

    Thanks for all your replies.

So, I know I can adjust the desktop like that. That's how I do it with my other computer. For some reason though, on my m11x it doesn't have that option.

    Image Removed Due to Size

That's what shows, I have looked into the Advanced Settings as well as even looking at the Custom Settings. Nada.

Btw - that's what was on my HDTV, plugged into the HDMI port on my m11x. However, what physically is shown on the TV is the top, left, right, and bottom slightly cut off (IE: I don't see the start bar, etc).

What Model of HDTV are we talking about?

I use a 40" Sony Bravia HD Ready TV (720p) via HDMI and it's fine.

It discovers the TV and identifies it as a Sony TV.

Watched Avatar DVD via the M11x.

Watch the same DVD via a Dell U2410 via HDMI and it was fine (Blu-ray would have been better).

The U2410 is a 1920x1200 res screen so 1080p has black-area top and bottom, but that's normal.

I have read of 'real' technical dramas with drivers/codec for some HDTVs.

I have the LG 32LH40 HDTV that I use with my M11X and I had to adjust the TV's setting to 'Just Scan' in order to get the proper sizing. It works great, and when I switch back to watching tv it reverts to the proper size. :)
