Finally decided to play with Firemark. At this GPU overclock they are hitting their 225W cap and throttling and need to be flashed to go higher.

make backup of card vbios before flash
have a 2nd card ready in case something screws up

    download nvflash ( http://www.overclock.net/t/1521334/...checks-bypassed-for-gtx-970-980-980ti-titan-x)

place modded bios and nvflash in C: root

    open cmd

    disable gpu in device manager
    cd C:\nvflash
    enter
    nvflash.exe
    enter
(enter the subsequent screens if necessary)
    nvflash -6 mod_bios_name.rom
    enter
    press Y if prompted
    enable gpu in device manager
shut down and power drain, boot to windows

if no nvidia control panel in desktop right click reinstall drivers

@Mobius 1 I got around tetsing the vBIOS you gave me, and it made things worse.

Score on left is with your vBIOS, and score on right is after a reflash of the original vBIOS. If you can't see it, just let me know.
I couldn't fix the problem, so I just went back to the original vBIOS.

Nice clocks, that's exactly the clocks I can get with my 3 980s. Why did you ditch the Titan? More perf per $?

I needed more power to comfortably play my games @ 60fps @ 4K. However, I will be returning the 980 KINGPINs next week. I will be buying the AMD Fury X2 that's coming out next month.

Depending how my Sky X9 performs, I may even stick with my old AMD Radeon R9 270 in the desktop until Arctic Islands comes out next year, and use my Clevo with my TV, but we'll see about that.

4K (DSR) + overclock + W3 and I just laughed man. Not even close to enough power.

I've had my hands on 7 980 based cards... What a boring year for GPUs. I know you feel the same. :p

Good choice with the Fury X2. I'm desperate for AMD to get back in the game.

Next year will be much more exciting for both GPUs and CPUs.

Fury X2 should be damn near 2x my Titan X at 4K so I can't wait to restore that single GPU performance for some of my games that don't do SLI/CFX and have full 60fps in every other game that supports SLI/CFX. The GTX 980 lacks too much in single GPU mode compared to my Titan X.

I've always liked dual GPU cards, I've had the GTX 295 and the 690, I wanted a 590 but didn't have the $$$ at the time.

On the desktop side of things I think AMD is doing fine in the GPU market, they need to come back into the mobile market though.
