For all those technology experts out there...

I've been looking for the service manual for the m9750 because I want to put a n-version wifi chip in it. I've had no luck but I did find one pic of the laptop disassembled. As far as I could tell the wifi chip is under the keyboard, but the size of the chip doesn't look like the same profile as the Intel 6200 chip.

I know these new chips are suppose to be a mini version, and that people are buying them up to replace their other wifi chips in their laptops, but I cant get an answer if this particular chip would be compatible.

So if anyone has any knowledge about the following questions can you please post here?

    * Does anyone have the service manual?
    * Can anyone confirm the placement/position of the wifi chip in the m9750?
    * Does the m9750 have 2 antennas?
    * Can anyone confirm if the Intel 6200 chip is compatible with the m9750?
    * Can someone post a link to a post showing the disassembly of the m9750?

    Many thanks!

    Sorry No
Underneath the keyboard on the right
Two antenna cables and two antennas
As far as i know it is the wrong size and too small for the m9750. The m9750 uses the proper height ones. You would be better getting a 4965AGN which is also an N card but originally sold with the m9750.
Look at the alienware knowledge base on alienware.com do a search for m9750 and you'll get all the disassembly info you need.

rsgeiger - i installed the intel 5300 into my m9750 which contains 3 antennas. from what i remember, the stock (3945?) card used 2 antennas but there was an unconnected third antenna so i was able to connect that to the intel 5300. if you are getting a PCI-e mini card then it should work. however, i cannot confirm the 6200 works, but the 5300 certainly works, and it works well! the intel 5300 performs better than the 4965 card from what i've read. it's a bit newer as well, and the wireless N works better on the 5300 too.

Reseating / install a Mini-Card wireless network adapter on the Alienware Area-51 m9750 mobile system

this was the link i used to install my card.

    hope this helps!

Thanks for that too Levenly! Unfortunately it is true that the 6200 is of a new format that will not fit the m9750. It has the same connector but is only half the height.

I certainly will give your card a try! It is good to know that the third antenna is there to work with! Is the third antenna that one that is taped down in the pictures based on your link?

yes. there were two black ones and a gray one, and one of the black ones was taped perhaps.

what do you mean the card is half the height? if it fits in the PCI-e slot, then it should work - you probably are looking at a PCI-e Mini card which is what has the same connector but is shorter to conserve space. from my understanding you can use a PCI-e Mini card in any PCI-e slot, so you may not be out of luck!

i'll dig through where i was looking before to see if i can give you more information.

thanks levenly, your help is very much appreciated. And I agree that technically it could work, but the PCIe Mini will have the mounting screws in the wrong place, correct? Looking at the fotos I dont see mounting holes for half hight PCI mini cards.
