now i also saw the same cards i have in my laptop now and there asking a super high price for them.. is there some thing speacil about the 3870s?

the m17 use mxm 2.1 tye III

so 90% of the chances are you are stuck with your gpu and the remaining are that you could find some uber rare 4850 that where made specificaly for this model

No, no other cards are compatible. The max graphics card that was built specifically for this machine is the 4850, but they were only sold with new machines from alienware, so unless someone is pieceing out their M17 as parts you will have a tough time finding one because the M17 uses MXM 2.1 Type III as granyte has stated. Dual 3870s is probably the best you can get. That MXM III 3870 above won't even work, as its a newer socket shape (and incompatible with M17), which probably explains the high price.

I see people complaining about this system all the time , stutter here stutter there.. and ive never had a problem! my games all run fine on this set up. oh well.. ok new question, is the M17x-R1 threw R3 good systems? im seeing all this hype about the i7 but im not seeing any thing thats better than what i have now..sure some graphics upgrades but cpu wise i feel i got a good one..but hell what do i know lol.. well should i upgrade? and to what system..and for what reasons?

i think upgrade needed if you "really needed" other than that it just wasting money IMO
