Ive been in the process of replacing my old dead GPU. I tried an ATI card, worked fine for a while but then burnt out, and have since went back to my former card type (a new GTX 8800m nVidia).

On both the ATI and nVidia cards, I was able to connect a HDMI cable to my Dell 2001FP Monitor (using a HDMI to DVI converter cable) and received video on the monitor, and was able to choose from the usual display settings (Extend, clone, etc).

However, after uninstalling the ATI card software and installing the nVidia 186.03 software, neither NCP or Windows will detect the monitor when plugged in (Does not show up in the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution screen). Since it worked fine with my previous 8800 GTX card and the ATI card, I'm inclined to believe that this is not a hardware/cable connection error.

Does anyone have any insight into this issue?

EDIT: Forgot to mention that I'm running Win7 x64 with the x36 BIOS. I've read the Restoring Hdmi-out Area51 m15xl thread, but have not had to do this in the past.

In no relation to the HDMI, I also high Temps on the GTX 8800 (idle/start-up at 60C, 88-95C during games), is this normal for this card? Should I re-seat or re-thermal paste it?
