i have just got my hands on an older alienware area-51 m5700 17" laptop and i cant find any support for it any were on the web, ive called alienware tech support and they told me that unless i have the original buyers username and password then there is no way for me to gain access to the hive to download the bios files needed for this laptop. what im trying to do is find the latest bios update and see if they added support for up to 4gb of ddr2 memory, right now all i can use is 2gb, when i added a brand new 4gb 2x2gb ddr2 kit the laptop would not post, but when i removed the second stick it would post, i also tried an extra 512mb and a 1gb stick to see if it would work, but it didnt, the system would post but in the bios only 2gb of the memory was being used, can anyone with this model laptop or anyone that knows were i can find the bios update help me out with this. im running windows xp pro sp3 x86, couldn't find all the drivers to run windows 7, but its not a big deal

    What 5700 do you have? 5700 R1 or an m5750 / m5790?

If you are not sure post specs.

I know my way around a m5750 / m5790 very well and can help but have never used a R1 5700
