The mobility 4870 from the Dell/AW M17x are MXM 3.0B and won't fit in the M17.

Presuming you're looking to upgrade from two mobility 3870s, the only option you have is a pair of mobility 4850s that are MXM 2.1b. They were produced in a very small batch for the last M17s they sold before it was discontinued, and as such they're extremely rare and - if you can even find a pair - very expensive.

Table was selling 4870's for $100 a pop here. His 4870's would work in a M17 but he may be sold out now. I picked one up from him.

You can still find the 4870 from the asus w90 (like the one I'm using) for around $200 new online.

But good luck finding an xfire cable for them, they have a strange connector.

Also they are only 512mb each.

I purchased 4870x2 with mxm 2.1 from Table. It should arrive next week. Isn't the xfire cable the same from the 3870x2?

The mxm 2.1 4870's that Table sells are 1GB and only $100 each. The connection on them looks the exact same to me as a 3870 but I have never had a crossfire cable to try.

What's the ram rated for on those cards he sells?

Also have you been able to overclock your card?
If so, what was your max OC?

I might pick up a card from him.

The card I bought from him would not work in my notebook because of my notebooks age and the card's vbios not supporting my model. I have heard they work great on a m17 though from other buyers.

You weren't by any chance trying to sell that card on eBay?

Ok, because there was another 4870m on ebay recently which was being sold cheap, the guy said he tried it on an alienware m5750 and it gave him 3 beeps. So he was selling it as is for $65 which I was really tempted to get at the time.

    Anyway I'm going off track...

I know, but I thought there was a chance that it was faulty and since he was selling it as is I hesitated.

I remember there was someone else that bought one or two 4870 from Table, he was also looking for another vBIOS.
