Anyone suggest a good place to advertise a 12 month old M17 with dual 4850s and QX9300 for sale?
Ebay just doesn't seem to be a good place to sell these days as all I get is 7 days of silly offers!
Also any idea how much it would be worth? It's just 12 months old, qx9300, dual 4850 in crossfire, 1440x900 screen, 3gb ram, win 7, microsoft office, 250gb HD etc.
    Thanks!

i sold my old m17 with worse specs about a yr ago and got 2000 for it, i got luck though.
but im betting youll get at most 1500 for it... a few reasons it wont go more is because...
    -only 3 gbs of ram
    -not the wuxga screen
    -basic hdd

and simply because its the late 2008 model and everyone wants the m17x now, so you just wont get a whole whole lot for it these days.

but im betting youll get 1500 on ebay...

    Thanks.
First ebay auction it went for £885 but the guy turned out to be an idiot so we agreed to cancel the sale luckily. I was thinking around 1300 so if I get at least between that and your estimate that would be good!
Ebay doesn't seem as good as it used to be - everyone seems to want something for nothing - I have lost count of the offers I've had for 500 or less!

you could repeat untill you find some one willing to put the right price or wait for some one to pulverise an ohter record with it and profit of the wave to sell your's

I have to ask...WHY did you spend all that money on the QX9300, but didn't get the better screen or hard drive or more RAM?

Anyway...You could try and put it up in the Marketplace section on this very forum. IF I remember correctly though you need at least 50 posts or something like that so you would have to participate in quite a few discussions beforehand.

On one hand, the CPU and GPUs are top spec and those alone should fetch the laptop quite a lot of money. However, the base-spec screen, HDD, and RAM will take away from the value quite a bit.

i have to agree on the screen the HD screen would have been a must and is right now downing your laptop's overall value

hdd and ram are so cheap these day i got 2x500GB of itachi 7200 from newegg for 150 can so i cna understand

also maybe upgrading the ram would help you sell it better as most people don't know the value of the cppu and gpu and just look ram and HDD (some people don,t even make a diference between these )

Love the laptop but am just selling cos have a new job that has long hours and I just don't game anymore! Have also bought a van to celebrate my new job and am spending all my money in converting it to a camper. Hardly use the laptop so just seems a waste to keep it!
Re the CPU I needed quad cos I do video editing and the games I play benefit from quad so I spent the money on the CPU and graphics rather than ram and hdd which could be upgraded later. Also got the lower screen so I could be sure of maxing out all games at native res. Didn't really see the point of hd screen if it meant you could only play games at lower settings.

And gta iv. And fsx. And arma ii. And operation flashpoint. These were the games I was playing so just wanted to ensure I could max them.

i could max out GTA IV on my m17 with 3870s. just need a ton of cpu clock speed. as you wont get $1500 ion enay for unless you wait for a long time. 3gb of ram & a non WUXGA screen is a deal breaker for 95% of ebayers, if its not full hd it wont sell for a decent price your better off parting it out. as is i would say around $1200 on here and a little more on ebay. u might want to invest in a WUXGA screen and a 2gb stick of ram would increase the interest in your machine greatly.

i would assume that if hes asking for advice on the forum, he would want accurate estimates. $1400-1600 is not accurate. if that's the case, try and sell it for $2500-3000.... the point is obviously, your entitled to want what ever you feel its worth. you might even sell it for that. and i may sell my house for a cool million....but if your seeking a real world value then watch ebay and how many sell, then are re listed. list it here and see how many offers you get. id venture to say that the range you will see most offers for your machine is the $1200 range. obviously this is all opinion based, so take it with a grain of salt.

the power of the laptop a qx9300 with 4850 is just a little lower then the i7 m17x with 4870 and a i7 q820 so 1500 cannot be accurate

take into account the screen resolution and the fact it is a older system with no ability to upgrade the warranty and the fact you have to send it in to get repairs done and the hassle of convincing tech support you have a alieware system

    inferior cooling
    thicker chassis
not core i series( + or con )
not a sliver of hope to get a upgrade

please, I have my own reasons

You guys are talking dollars but the seller is in the UK...or so it appears from one of his posts.
I reckon if you get £1000($1540) your doing good. Everything costs more here.
I spent £600 just on the 4850s alone.

Moo makes some good pints about the notebook being end of life and lacking support/upgrade options.
It depends how knowledgeable the buyer is on Alienware notebooks specifically legacy versions.
I could easily have fallen for this at £1500 when I was first in the market for an Alienware.
If it was me I would just keep it on Ebay and hope someone bites. Be more strict with your price.

he might infact get a little more from striping it apart

th qx if oem can be sold from 500 to 700$
    the 4850 from 800 to 900 $
and the barebone it self for 500 $

so if you do the conversion still quite a bit

I'd have to agree with the others on this one. Stripping the laptop apart and selling all the components individually could earn you more money than selling it whole.

In particular, the two mobility 4850s together (with the cable) could fetch a LOT of money. If you manage to find another M17/OCZ Whitebook owner, they might be willing to pay out a lot for them, as it's a massive upgrade over 3870s (almost twice the performance). Plus as the others have said, the QX9300 OEM will also fetch a lot. I'm not too sure about granyte's $500 estimate for the barebones laptop though.

that was a NBR estimate so it can even be worth more out of here

and the alien head might as well add even more

your 3 best bet are the notebookreview market place alienware them selfs and ebay

(most AW rep will tell you they can't sell them just keep rigninh until you get one that will sels them)

and if he wanna sel the qx for under 620 i'm taking it

his barebone is prolly worth some more as he did not complained about stutering and he got a quad and 4850 so he got a mobo in perfect state i might even get the mobo to i'd just have to find some 3870 and voila i know a GF who wil be hapy
