this is for ocz whitebook and alienware m17 notebooks to get the best cooling and performance out of their notebook.
everyone can join and share inputs but try to stay on topic.

the reason why this thread was created is because our notebooks have a heating problem on the northbrigde and it caused us to stutter, have mouse issues, couldn't run games, etc.

now we know what the issue is and we fixed it, we found out that making it cooler makes a big difference in proformance.
    everything is here.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=368282
their are alot of people that helped us and we were glad for all of them and hopefully we can get somewhere with this as well.

WARNING THIS IS TO HELP YOUR NOTEBOOK STAY COOL AND WE RECOMMEND ONLY MORE EXPERINCED PEOPLE TO DO THIS. WE ARE ALSO NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR NOTEBOOK. PLEASE TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK

here are some pictures of the insides of the whitebook

Yeap and we will be posting detailed pictures and instructions soon for how to copper mod the northbridge heatsink for relief of the stuttering. However, with more cooling i think we can squeeze much more performance than normal users have been seeing.....going from 77c to 72c on the NB has allowed me to gain 590 points in 3dmark06 without any framdrops or stutters as oposed to my previous 88c NB temp. I feel the surface of the NB heatsink does not fully cover the NB 100% and this allowed for overheating on a certain spot of the NB die causing it to go all out of wack, the copper slit helped relieve all stuttering for me for over a day so far...

Also worth noting is the GPU memory bank issue...which Don has posted pics on how to re-apply it individually to each bank. We are currently working on the easiest way to mod the current heatsinks and possibly cool the NB much better than we currently have it so that we can test the performance gains

Yes but after the Liquid cooling pads are emplaced they cannot be removed... so if a problem did occur it may cause complications, no?

mr moo right now we can help you by undervolting your cpu at stock speeds. it should lower your cpu by 5 degrees and also you NB to. download rmclock and we can go from there.

halogod can you keep us informed on the copper situation.

i am going to try different paste to see what s the best to use.

i get what you mean but i don't think that is a wise choice because wouldn't the heat also go back to the NB... i wish they made it separet from each other. i am thinking of a way to desprise the heat away from it period with out the cpu fan. like add a little extention to it. something. it is just a thought for now. i didn't fully think about it yet.

EDIT mine is a lil to big :(

although one day i was gameing in class and i put a fan blowing on the back not on the laptop but whne i blew away the hot air out the back i never hit ove 76c while playing fallout 3

im going to mod the cover with 2 vents..one for sucktion and one for blowing the air out.....keeping the air in control can easily be done with a anti static plastic that will keep the guided air in control....it will be tight but i think it will work....i really think the NB needs dedicated cooling the cpu runs hot enough as it is
