    Hello All

I am obviously new to this forum and new to Alienware in general. I just bought a 2009 Alienware M17-R1 and I'm really enjoying it. The Alien logo on the lid will light up but the keyboard does not. This prompted me to do some research before just asking on here. I found recommendations that included reinstalling all of my drivers, reinstalling command center etc. I have tried the obvious steps i.e. FN +F10.

A little background, this computer was re imaged before being sold to me and had Windows 7 pro installed. It does not have Command Center installed and I cannot access pre dell Alienware support with no account number.

    So my questions are this:

Can I get access to the Alienware Support without having an account number?
Anymore recommendations on fixing my keyboard? Not only is this a nice and attractive feature for the computers, but it really helps with seeing the keys.

Any and all input will be appreciated. If there is a better place to post this thread, please let me know.

    Thanks in advance!

    Jacob

Goto support.dell.com enter service tag of laptop, download and update drivers, install alienware command centre (this controls lights).

Thanks for the input vs3074. I was able to access the Hive and download the command center I needed for the PRE DELL unit.

However, I discovered that the model I purchased did not come with an illuminated keyboard, just the alien head logo on the lid lights up.

So, are illuminated keyboards available for purchase for the M17-R1 models?

You could try one of the newest ones, the can even be used on non-Alienware machines.

If it's just the keyboard lights that are being the problem then I suspect a loose ribbon cable. It's a rather easy fix and Alienware keyboards usually have two ribbon cables coming out of them, one for the keyboard itself and one for the lights. It's highly probable that the one connecting the lights have come loose
