hey im thinking of buying a nVidia 8700m GT for my area-51 m15x (r1)
    but there are two problems
1 is that it's a slave video card
2 its originally made for an ausus.
is there a way i can flash the bios or do some stuff to fix these problems?

I don't know but I've seen those cards.

I'm not really sure that will work for you at all.

fx 2700m is much more reliable, higher performance, low heat and power consumption, best to find one of those.

Look Im truly not trying to be that guy who "yells" at someone when a question is asked on a forum for not searching. But as of late ALOT of people are asking questions about installing video cards in the Area 51 M15x/m17x series of computers. Questions that have been answered in numerous of threads.

sorry about that i just don't know what i'm looking for: what solves what problem? does flashing solve the "slave card" part or the cross computer problem? am i supposed to do something else for the other issue? are there multiple things i need to do to solve 1 problem? im sorry but my name is true.

also i found a 8800m gtx with a MXM 2.1 type III slot but its made for clevo's
will i be able to just put that into my m15x r1 and get the appropriate drivers for 8800m card and be fine?

Make sure this card doesn't have the reverse layout like most of the newer Asus cards have (chipset would face down when installed into a non Asus laptop, so you couldn't mount the heatsink on the gpu chip).

As long as it's an mxm 2.1 type 3 it should work just fine. Some dremeling (of the heatsink) may be required.

HERE IS WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT:

    HP & Lenovo MXM CARDS:
    3700m, 2700m, 3600m

Clevo, Sager & unbranded MXM cards:
280m, 260m, 9800m GT, GS, GTS, GTX, 8800m GTX, GTS ALL MXM 2.1 NOT 3.0

Lukeman, no one says type 3, that is what creates the extreme confusion here. Its MXM 2.1 TYPE III or HE

    WHAT YOU BOUGHT INSTEAD:
    an Asus card.
99% of Asus cards are totally incompatible with other laptops.

    WHAT SOLVES THE PROBLEM?
    WHAT *IS* YOUR PROBLEM???

Refunds will solve the problem of you having bought the wrong thing!

If you have tried it in your laptop, and the screen is black, then who knows? You are probably the first person to ever have done that.

In that case, your problem would be BLACK SCREEN, lol.
Just because it is a slave or asus card does not mean that is the cause at all, it could be something else. What makes you think we are psychic and you are entitled to a straight answer?
Its not all black and white.

Now if you haven't already, break out your screwdriver and do some good old honest experimentation. Then come back and post results of testing with a VGA cable and external monitor.
