OK so I have downloaded Rivatuner and Fraps so I can monitor FPS and GPU temps.

MOH is a beautiful game and very enjoyable to play. The game appears to be using real time physics but the game was not designed for Nvidia cards so I do not know if this is true. Anyway I am playing the game currently at 1400/1024 res with all settings on high, AA enabled, and vsync off.

I played the game last night for one hour and consistently hit 50-60 FPS (measured using fraps) with plenty of explosions, numerous bad guys around and highly detailed MOUT and wide open areas. The main GPU never went above 88 C and the slave was at 62 c, there was zero stuttering or shredding. I am currently using the latest 260.xx series of drivers.

Tonight Ill go up on the res again, I’m slowly working up to native 1900, we shall see how close I get.

Pleasantly surprised with the good old 9800m gt's!!!!!!

As long as the old girl plays modern games this well, im keeping her!!!!!

I played MOH for an hour last night at native res (1900/1280) with all settings maxed and AA on. On avg my FPS were at 55 and only dipped down to the mid 30's when the game scenario involved helicopters and gun runs. The main GPU reached 88 and the slave was at 70. Im very pleased with this performance to say the least.

The game is very detailed, the weapons look real with very fine detail, fire, and ecxplosions are unbeliavable and as I said before the game appears to be using physics of some sort.

MOH is an example of how a properly programed game is supposed to play. It's a shame that crysis wasnt so polished.

Glad to see that all the money I spent on the Area 51 M17x was well worth it. Ive had the system almost two years now and it can still max out games.

Very cool. I have an m15xR1 with 9800GT, 4GB and dual core 2.2ghz and after looking through this forum i'm realizing that I should've paid extra for the M17x. It seems to have been designed as a better longer lasting design. I'm debating on whether to upgarde to the GTX260/280 to keep it going or save a little and get a newer laptop from Sager. I've been playing Just Cause 2 and Mafia 2 on my desktop with GTX460, 4GB ram and Quad 2.5 ghz at 1280x1024 everything on high, AA avg 60fps. My m15x has trouble at 1024x768 with everything on low. Bummer

Other than the horrible hinges your m15x isnt bad. Get another 8800/9800m or upgrade to the gtx 260/280m , repaste and monitor temps. Your laptop should be good to go for new games.

I did the clean/repaste maintenance because I thought the heat was causing a throttling down issue, but it's still poor. I thought it was heat related because it would start off in a game fast and then get choppy. The strange part is that when I first played Mafia 2, it ran it fast with decent settings, then after a few days it started chugging and hasn't improved. That's been a month now. Any ideas? I really, really want to get a GTX280 for it. I love the look and feel of this laptop and the performance rocked when new. I have a soft spot for this laptop even though it has a bad reputation.

Does anyone out there have a comparison of performance gains going from an 8800/9800 to a 260/280 in games? I would really like to know what the jump in performance or FPS increase overall would be in this upgrade. That would sway me into upgrading or not. Also, even if the heat issue is a problem with the 280, i've considered stripping the guts out and building a custom enclosure with adequete cooling and making a media center/gaming PC for the living room. I'm into building custom cases and I love hiding laptop innards in household items. I think they are better suited for this than MicroATX parts. Thanks
