Hi guys, it's my first post on here and I need some help. I have an Alienware M9700i-R1, it's 3 years old and I have never had any problems with it until last week when I shut it down like I always do and the next night when I tried to start it up, it wouldn't start. The lights come on and the start up noise is normal but that's all it does -no screen action at all; if I hold the power button to turn it off, it turns off straight away which it does not usually (normally there is a delay before it turns off).

If anyone has any idea where I should start, please help.

    Thanks in advance.

Turn on your computer again and get a flashlight. Shine it on the screen at different angles and see if you can see any of your desktop such as folders or background image.

If you can, then your backlight is out and will need to be replaced.

Let me know what you find and I will try and help some more.

I think I have sorted it. I changed the graphics card over from my brothers alien and it came on first time so i would say its that. But now i have a new prob where do i get a new one? I phoned alienware or dell and they took my number and said they would phone me back but i am still waiting. Does anyone know where else i can try?

    Thx IanOmega for the help

Just as a test - try to put your graphics card back in and see if it works. If it does then it probably just needed reseating!
