    M9700-R1 blu-ray drive

    Apologize in advance if I'm asking this in the wrong place and/or it's a silly question. I recently inherited an Alienware m9700i-R1 and would like to put a blu-ray drive into it (just blu-ray readable, not writable). I was wondering if anyone could tell me blu-ray drives that would be compatible (preferably the least costly). I'm a total novice when it comes to this stuff, so any help would be much appreciated...

    I bought this optical drive 4 years ago for $500, I think it sells new now for less than $100 or so.

    Lots of folks think you need a firmware update for these optical drives- you dont.

    All it needs is player software updates. I suggest you get Powerdvd Ultra and update the builds regualrly- do not use OEM blu-ray players
