Not sure if anyone can help me at this point but here's the deal.

My power adapter for my M17-R1 is a 20v 11a with a barrel plug no center pin.

Alienware themselves don't carry them. 1 electronics website has them listed, but are "out of stock".

So pretty much I have a 10 lb paperweight right now. Does anyone know where I can get one of these AC adapters?

Another point to make is that there are tons of adapters on ebay and what not that match the model #(0405B20220) but have the 4 pin connecter. Is there an adapter I can simply purchase? I've searched but have not found one.

This thing is only 2 years old, and I'd hate to have to go buy a new laptop already.

But then again, that HP Envy is looking pretty nice. I won't buy Alienware again, that's for sure.

Have you tried calling dell or speaking to one of their reps via chat? They seem pretty helpful when I do stuff like that.

I spoke to 6 reps this morning until one figured out they don't carry them.

Does your old adapter still work? If so, you can buy a dell with an identical barrel plug (I think the Ispiron 15/17 series laptops use the same barrel), cut the old barrel off your Alienware adapter and attach the new one from the dell adapter - this is similar to what I did - I bought the 4 pin version and swapped the 4 pin end with the dell barrel - It's easy and works! If you do need an adapter, make sure it's 20v 11a and you'll be fine.

    I'm in the US.

And yes, I have the old adapter and the plug at the end is fine.

Can you tell me more about the process of how to use my old plug on a newer 4 pin version AC adapter? Splice the wires I assume?
