So for the past month and half I've been with out my alienware M17. Dell has been trying to fix it. the issue is that since may 13-15 a rep told me that they where waiting for an LCD replacment, but was in back order. (there was nothing wrong with my LCD when i sent it to them, they must of broken it when fixing). i have been emailing and calling since may 17 till now, just to hear the same thing. that they dont have an update, and that they will email the depot to see any new update, and that they will email me back in 24-36 hours with an update, which resulted in no reply. i called today, talked to a rep again and told me the same story, this time i was very upset, and told him that i wanted to speak to is supervisor. Puts me on hold, he comes back and tells me that he spoke with is supervisor and that by friday the latest, if they cant find a replacment LCD ( its a 17-Inch WideUXGA 1920 x 1200 LCD (1200p) with Clearview Technology) they will credit me so that i can purchase a new laptop.

My question is, do they make this kind of LCD anymore? should i start planning on a new rig?

1920x1200 panels are getting progressively harder to get ahold of. I am surprised that the laptop that old even had a 1200p panel. How much do they plan on crediting you? If you have an extended warranty they should replace it with a current model M17x R3.

The rep told me that they will credit me the amount that I spent on my laptop. Which would be around 2100, not including tax and the aditional 2 year warranty that I paid for.

And should I expect them to credit me the tax as well from the purchase? Or just the value of the laptop. And the warranty? I'm just reaching the 2 years from my 3 year warranty. Should they add more time to the new laptop if they do happen to replace it?

I would be willing to bet you could get an m18x if you complained enough... it all depends on how much of an @$$ you want to be, or just be satisfied with whatever they give you...
