Hey all, just registered today with this place, but I've been browsing through it for information regarding my problems.

I recently purchased my M15X-R1, or Area 51 M15X as its other name refers, off of someone from craigslist. There isn't anything wrong with the laptop, he even went as far as to install a fresh boot of windows 7 ultimate replacing the vista it had come with.

My problem is, command center does not even recognize the computer model at all and thus no images in the alienfx application. I am unable to adjust any settings at all for the lights (and I'm mostly wishing a way for my keyboard lights to work). Now I've tried the supposed keyboard file fix and it didn't do anything, alienfx still does not recognize the chasis. Is there anyone who can help shed further light on my situation here? I'm tired of coming up with zero results and I don't feel like replacing the install of windows ultimate 7 as the OS.

Ok, well I'm excited that I've managed to get the AlienFX editor working so far now. But my keyboard still won't light up, I've applied the registry fix and still nothing. Does anyone have any idea what else the cause could be?

Are you sure that you have a backlit keyboard? It was an additional option in the area 51. The only way to be sure is to remove the screws holding it on from beneath the service cover. If you see 1 cable it's unlit. If you see 2 then it may be worth making sure the connector is seated properly.

    *Edit*
Looks like I was wrong, this keyboard did not come backlit. However it is swappable with one that is and I've already found some on ebay for reasonable prices. Thanks for letting me know about the 2 cable setup :)

Is there a list anywhere for what mobile graphics cards are available for the m15x-r1? I've seen people with stuff up to the 5850, but I gather that some of it is based on the cpu logic board configuration.

I dont know about ATI cards but I know some individuals are running gtx 280m cards in the M15x. Becareful, the coling on the M15x isnt the greatest, you can easily cook a card.

Well I've seen some on here running the 3870 which seems like a reasonable upgrade. I don't like the idea of running anything too high. Not just because of cooling issues, but also because of hdmi out compatibility issues.

I'm still having an issue with command center. It's awesome that I can now create themes, but I've no alien sense, so I can't adjust settings on my camera to get it looking better for use over aim.

Just my opinion but a 3870 isnt an upgrade from a well working 8800 gtx or 9800m gt. 4870 oh my gosh yes!!!
