Be sure to visit the Dell Outlet before you buy this to take a look at what they have to offer.

At $999 I don't think you can go wrong here, :) i-3 isn't the greatest chip, but I don't think it's that bad of a price, and anyone looking at core a core 2 duo, should be happy with a 5870 and i3 right?

    900 is way to much.
    I assume from the specs it's a M9750 (M9700i-R1)

The 8700 GT SLI sucks donkey balls and is also prone to defects.
The 9750GTX SLI would be the best option imo for this notebook.

In either case 900 is way, and i mean way to much. You should think 500 dollars for a cosmetically good version, with 9750GTX in SLI in technical great condition, with a faster processor and 4 Gb ram.
The setup you describe would be worth about $400, $900 is nothing short of a rip-off.

And don't expect top knotch performance (would still be quite decent though), you are buying a 3 year old laptop with aged components.

M17x had alienfx lighting while the M9750 didn't have any. The M17 had light zones

It is a Area 51 M17x. The 8700 GT was the base SLI option with the M17x
