They might be too thick. Are your idle temps high also, or only the load temps?

Is your GPU running at stock clock speeds or overclocked?

With stealth mode on my idle temps are around 50C. Stealth mode off and with 2D clocks my temps hang around 60C. (this is all with the fan off)

With stealth mode off, 3D clocks and full load, the temps shoot to around 93C and then the fans kick in on max and keep it hanging around 96C.

Just bought the card off ebay (never again) and its the OC version of the series. I think it has the same clocks as the desktop version.

Overclocked and sressed thats what you can expect. How much AC5 did you use? If too much its just as bad as too little and it takes a few days to set in. Becareful the 9800m gt is known to have a solder issue, high temps could exacerbate the situation. Additionally the Area 51 M15x doesnt have the best cooling for that beast of a card. Id sacrifice some fps for lower clocks and lower temps.

I am going to scrape some off when I get a chance. Yeah, thats why I am now on a second card. Are my thermal pads too thick? They seemed to be about the same thickness as the ones before... Not 100% sure though.

You can also try a cooling pad to lower a couple of degrees. Seems like it is getting lots of heat.
