    Hey all,

I purchased a used M9700 Alienware laptop. I installed 2 500 Gig 7400 RPM HD's but do not have them in Raid. The secondary HD is for graphics files and games.

So, I loaded up an old sim, Flight Simulator FS2004, and figure the sim would run pretty fast or at least fair in the new 'old' Laptop, but instead, it is locked at 'zero' settings, all scalers at zero point, and not adjustable.

I loaded FS2004 onto E:/ drive. Could this be where I messed up? Do the Alienware M9700's perhaps have a gaming mode I should be using that I do not know about?

My unit has the AMD 64 Turion and dual GeForce Go 7900 GS's running in SLI mode. I only have 2 Gigs of DDR1 ram, non upgradeable.

If this is it, I understand, but I am hoping I am just forgetting something here and it will run much better.

    Many thanks,

    LH

    Hey all,

Today I reapplied Thermal Paste to all the chip heads and cooling surfaces. Then rebooted and booted up FS2004. Still the locks were on all the slider settings for display/detail, etc. But, when I took off, I couldnt believe my eyes! This darn thing is running FS9 at between 60 and 70 Frames per Second!!!!!

    DANG!!!!

    Nice...

Now to find out why the game isnt adjustable. That is a really odd thing.

Well, I tried switching out drivers, then tried turning off the control panel for nVidia, none of which worked.

Tried reinstalling FS2004 onto the C drive, deleting the E drive installation. That did nothing.

    Hello WingX,

Its a fresh, new install of Windows from the ReSpawn kit, all updated drivers. The ReSpawn went smoothly with no issues, factory HD image reinstalled and on fresh new HD's. I 'feel' that it may not be Windows.

Many thanks though for the input. I may consider that.

    Hey Wing_X01,

I was at it again this afternoon trying to see if I could figure this out, and decided to see if Flight Simulator X (FSX) would work and be adjustable in this laptop and indeed it worked fine, smooth and the sliders are fully adjustable.

Maybe its my discs. I cant figure this out. I have loaded it up 3 or perhaps 4 times now, always the exact same thing; grayed out sliders that will not adjust, and the other sim, FSX, is fully adjustable.

I have scoured the internet to see if someone else had this issue, and I have found 'no one' that has had this happen... arrrgh...
