So since i recieved my m17 like 8 month ago it seemed like my batterie life was disminishing at the speed of light so sometime ago zfactor posted about batcal.exe to try to calibrate the sensor that detected the charge i'm atm trying to figure how it works

i'm also trying to see how far down i can go in undervolting to keep my laptop stable and save on batterie life how ever it's sad it seem i can't undervold my 4850

for now my quad can go down as far as 1.0125 and be stable (2hour movie on this setting) i'll post my result as i progress i my atemps to render this laptop's mobility a little les lame

If you go into 'Power options' you can get advanced settings for each power plan. It's possible to fine tune them, and there could still be a few settings in 'power saver' that you could turn down for longer battery life, potentially.

Apart from that, undervolting is pretty much the only way to do. Also, in the power plan, if you set the maximum processor state at 50% then it'll lock the Q9000 at 1.6GHz, and the step down also automatically undervolts it further. That could potentially save quite a bit of extra battery.

Honestly though, you're not going to get much more than 2 hours out of it.

when the batterie was new i have been able to suck 2h30 out of it stock (AW b14 bios) and no toying around with the clock and etc so i should be able to get something around it with with my underclocking and undervolting

the only thing i miss is a way to modify the 4850 voltage and clock
all the tool modify the clock permanantly and disable power play and they don't allow voltage modding

an other thin the intel xtu allow for diferent profile and auto prifile changing if you are on batterie or on the AC but naturaly it's grayed anyone know how to make this work?

EDIT: 0.9875v and stable it bsoded a couple of min ago but i suspect it'S because i pushed my gpu to far down (it's a shame we can't underclock them i'm sure it would allow for a much greater effect on the batterie life)

found a way to undervoltk my dual 4850 dynamicly with the load but it required reflashing them
i took the ocasion to overclock them when under use i'll see what kind of boost it provide

but for now the underclock and undervlot of stock usage downed the temp of 5-6 deg

can I undervolt but keep he same clock at the same time ? I want it to produce less heat but keep the same performance.

and one more thing.... how do u do it ?

you can try how ever thay wont necesarly stay stable you need to reflash your cards

you need to follow mandrake's tutorial i can't find it back but some one reposted it there http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware/466403-m17x-r2-overclocking-ati-4870s.html
and watch out the RBE is quite confusing it includes clock for diferent loads that is why i have the clock all the way down when i'm not doing anything and i have them oced past what the 4870 can do hehehehehe
