Hi everyone!
I have a Alienware M17 with a P8600 CPU but I will like to upgrade it to a 4 core one. Because the lastest games need a 4 core CPU to work propely.
Does my motherboard will support a Intel Core 2 Quad Mobile Q9100 2.26G 12M 1066FSB ? It is a Socket P too.
And Is it Possible to overclocking it ?
Thanks

You can upgrade to the x9000 (2.8ghz dual core), x9100 (3.06ghz dual core), and can be overclocked with throttlestop. And only a few games come to mind that benefit from having a better cpu (not necessarily a quad core), such as bfbc2 and gta4. Also, games are more graphic intensive.
An option is available to upgrade to quad core q9000 (q9100/q9200/qx9300), but people have complained of stuttering issues in games where it becomes unplayable. Apparently a fix for that is pulling out the battery cord or cycling the keyboard lights. I'd rather just avoid a quad core for that reason, and also because most games don't utilize it.
I would personally choose the x9100 being a higher base clock dual core, which will let you avoid the stuttering issues.

What a great answer! Thanks a lot!
I though in a 4-core CPU because I hear that the perfonmance in Battlefield 3 is way better with that core. But I think that It have to run good with the x9100 too.
Thanks! -
all the mobile core 2 quad will fit this laptop how ever some of them wil have a risk of stutering
