Welcome to the forums. For upgrading that computer, not really ... you could put an SSD in there and Windows 7 on it. In reality though that notebook is a dinosaur and it's time to get a new one if it's not fast enough. I think literally any processor sold in mainstream PCs today is faster than the Pentium 4 in there.

We have a "What notebook should I buy" form here you can fill out - http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...ould-i-buy-form-must-read-before-posting.html
Then just post a new thread with it filled out here:
What Notebook Should I Buy? - A Laptop Buyers Guide

    Cheers.

I feel like Win 7 would kill an old P4. From my experience Core 2 Duo is the min for good performance.

I seem to running Windows 7 on my M7700 without any problems; of course I haven't had much time with it as well.

One upgrade I just did with mine was upgrade the wireless card in it. Mine had a broadcom "G" installed with only one antenna hookup. I just installed this one EBay upgrade. This card allows two antenna and runs on "N" at 5GHz. Big improvement in speed.

As I mentioned in the forth post...Have you done that?

You can also upgrade the memory and the hard drive to a SSD.

Have any links to the specific hardware upgrades you mentioned?
