Hi all, I've turned to you a desperate man looking for an answer.
When playing games such as Starcraft II, Diablo 3, or Tribes: Ascend, I will get sudden lag, where the game becomes unplayable and choppy. This will last for about 20 seconds, and then go back to running perfectly fine for a few minutes until this happens again.
(Also I have played other games, like TeamFortress2, perfectly fine.)
I read in a forum that multiple people had this problem (don't know what computer they were running), and fixed it by disabling Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST) in the BIOS. I went to try this, but found that I have very limited advanced bios options, and have no option to turn off EIST.
(I have the power options on 'High Performance', but some have said that still doesn't fully disable EIST.)
I have updated my bios to the newest on myHive, updated my video card drivers to the 186.xx since, as many have stated on these forums, that's the newest one that works. I also checked to make sure my fans were working fine.

    So my question to you:
    • What do you think my problem is?
    • Is there any unlocked bios floating around for the m15x? (I saw an unlocked version but that was for the dell alienware, not pre-dell) And would that even make a difference?
    • Am I just out of luck and have to get a new system?

I thank you for your time and any help you can give me.

OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 7 - Windows 2.6.1.7601 (Service Pack 1) CPU TYPE: Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T9300 @ 2.50GHz VIDEO CARD MODEL: NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTX SYSTEM MEMORY: 4 GB

Not sure what the problem is but if it were my laptop my first thing to try would either be re-installing the OS or picking up a 3870m and trying that card. At least you would have drivers from 2012

is the 3870m a newer graphics card that will work in this system>? my pc does the same thing when i play guild wars 2 it gets really annoying. and it is happening before and after i just put windows 7 ultimate on. I do know this much when the pc is ramped up sounds like the fans are on full blast it plays fine its when the noise quiets down that it lags the after a bit i does the same thing

I think they came out about the same time but the 3870m can use modern drivers which in my opinion is a huge advantage.

that is deff something i will be adding to the list of things to try. I do have a theory now. after more searching i found that when you swap over from vista to 7 like i did you have problems in the command center with fusion touch and minor with fx. i also noticed a memory leak from the alienfusion controller and wonder if that had something to do with it? I just loaded my games back up last night and will be testing a few things with that along with your idea. if no luck i will probably check the paste on the cpu and gpu? is there a way to tell my temps during game play?

I am pretty sure I have figured this problem out. I went to my task manager and went to services then shut off the alien fusion controller then went and played guild wars for about an hour strait in some heavy populated areas with no lag at all the whole time. this is a first since i have had the game. I am about 90% sure now that it is linked to the alien fusion controller.
